self leveling concrete

I have an area of the barn, I am converting to a shop area. The concrete floor has a very rough broom finish. It is also not very level. I want to smooth it off for a project and fabrication area. Has anyone done a floor like this? shop area approx. 20*40. any help is greatly appreciated.

I've used self levelling before, but it was in my basement, to level a section of the original concrete floor...about 10' x 10'...and then tiled over it. That was about 8 years ago.

Used it in my basement to level floor for bathroom before tile worked great did it about 5 years ago

I would want to cover up any self leveling product with tile. I would suspect that if you leave it bare, the thinner outer edge of the patched area would eventually crack and fall apart.

Thanx for the feedback. I won't be able to cover the area with tile or similar as I will be welding and grinding in this area. I may just try it anyway and if it crumbles on the edges, I'll deal with that when it happens. I'll provide an update once I get it done.

Make sure the old floor is extremely clean. No embedded oil or grease and no dust/dirt. Use a bonding agent.

There's a self leveling product called Mg-Krete Lock the Top SLU that if you just mix it in a 5gl pail with a paddle mixer and dump it out on your properly prepped concrete, it will self level at 1/4". Made to be an underlayment, gets to over 7,000 psi and is beige in color. Completely impervious to all liquids. As fast as you can mix in a pail and dump it out it will blend the cold joints. We have several Dist. here in Michigan. Not made for exterior even though we have put it outside without issue.
