I got pitted areas in my garage floor about 1/2". Reading the forum I get the impression that I need to fill up those areas with self leveling epoxy or patch material and then epoxy coat it. Has anyone done this? If yes, can you please summarize your experience. also do you have recommendation on the products to use?

On my last epoxy job, I had one area with several deep pits / dings / gouges in the floor. I filled them using one of the Evercoat brand automotive body fillers that are available with the chopped fiberglass already mixed in.

After it cured I sanded it flat to the floor with a 60 grit disc on a palm sander...worked great, and the repaired area is still invisible after 12+ years.

Jagg:
We have a resurfacer that can be troweled or a slurry that can be raked in.
Check our site under "concrete repair" or " concrete resurfacer".

1/2" is pushing the bounds of a coating.

Good luck,

I like Bondo. A set designer builder I know turned me on to it - he used tons of the stuff. So my rehabs often had a can or two, window sills, rotted posts, etc. It's quick, easy to shape, holds paint well. That it would be ready for paint in an hour or so was great.

I don't have a lot of experience with it on the floor though, does it hold up well applied thin over large areas?

We do have a troweled on epoxy binder that when mixed with sand sticks like snot and is very durable, it can go on thin or be built up as thick as needed.

Bondo works EXCELLENT in pits, expansion joints, and cracks in concrete. I recently used it before my VCT install.

Two days ago I sanded the VCT with a floor sander using 60/100 grit sand paper. I then put Bondtite over it from Alpha Garage. It goes down easily, dries slowly. It simply looks amazing. It is a bit expensive, but obviously a quality product,

Ill take some pics of the final product soon.

Reason that I recommended the evercoat body filler (aka bondo) with chopped fiberglass reinforcing material mixed in, is because it is significantly harder when cured than plain (ie, non-reinforced) body filler. I'm sure regular bondo will work, but there's no doubt that the stuff w/chopped 'glass is even better.
