Plus $35 shipping and $115 for tax, it would be $1287 if I got it through miller.

And I started reading about the Hobart handler 210mvp... So Hobart is Miller's economy line, right? What exactly is different on them? If it's plastic handles and stuff like that that doesn't matter to me, what about the guts? drive wheels.. etc..? Northerntool has them for $879 with free shipping.

That's actually what I was going to suggest. It's been on my buy list since it came out. I've looked at the HH 210 MVP at TSC and am impressed with the way it was put together. I'm am a red fan but compared to Lincolns in the same range, this HH beats them out. And while a Miller would be nice, the HH does what they do for less money. I feel comfortable buying a 210MVP. You're getting a heckuvalotta welder for < $900.

The HH has tapped voltage settings; the Miller 211 has infinite. For the internals, I read guys comparing side by side they are pretty much the same overall components but the M has the Al drive rolls and the HH has plastic. The consensus is - non issue.

Do I NEED infinite voltage settings? Being the HH has 7 settings, I should be able to get it dialed in close? This is going to be a hobby/home use only welder. Maybe some sheet metal work, repairing trailers, 4 wheeler frames, etc, etc.

Do I NEED infinite voltage settings? .

No, my MM210 has taps, and it is one of the best mig machines they ever made, right behind the old MM200. More adjustments, more room for error.

I would suggest you read up on wire speed vs voltage and what each controls in the weld.

You can get a HH210 or MM212 for a steal if you watch carefully. I paid $750 new in box for mine. It was sitting in a guys garage for a year before he decided he would never use it.

If you can deal with 220 only, the older MM210 is AWESOME and a big step up from from the current 110/220 MVP machines.

p.s. I never know what to write about voltage. The house I grew up in measured almost 110/220v on the dot. My current place meters at 255v! What is voltage drop? ;)

The local atwoods sells Hobart, I"m going to go check them out on my break tomorrow, I may end up getting one if they're at a decent price there.

I don't think so. I'm a "general consumer" rather than a weldor. The professional weldors regard the tapped setting vs infinite controls as a personal preference. That being the case, I don't think you or I would notice the difference (compare it to a fine motor skill vs gross motor skill).

I liike taps. First one is an SPT Lincoln the second a HH210 Lot of splatter in the first but I really didnt look when I did it, the SP with a 5 speed like you find at those stores with 030 is about perfect.

The Hobart is almost perfect and it would be an operator thing. I found a spot between gears when doing critical testing but no general operator could tell the difference. The real need to move most machines for 120V use is over rated,, in my case it is, but there is nothing that would stop me from a Hobart over ther Miller, the Miller has a couple gadgets on it that wouldnt mean a pinch of **** to me.

As for concern about alum vs plastic,,, that type of thing is a non issue here, some of it is better,, they would like to change sometimes but sales get in the way.

Looks like I'm going with the hobart 210mvp. was checking them out today at atwoods and what sold me on it was the miller gun that came with it. Going to order from northerntool tomorrow, $879, no tax and free shipping. Only drawback it comes from hobart so itll take 7-12 days to get here.
