This will probably be moved to the 'correct' place, but I feel I should ask it here since this is the forum I watch.

Been talking to a fellow GJer on here about selling something.. I would like to go by the faith system but for the safety of both parties.. How does one go about selling something and collecting? I know a bunch of you have done it before, so I am asking you.

Thank you.

Cant pick up... I know if Paypal but dont have an account and dont sell stuff often, so I didnt know if it was worth doing. But generally, in private sales, the buyer pays first then?

Generally - yes. That's how ebay and such works as well. I don't put the groceries out in the truck until I paid at the register, ya know?

Here, I would check his feedback in the Product and Vendor Reviews section. If you're reasonably convinced he's a stand-up guy you can either send him a money order or payment through Paypal. Once you send the money order you have no recourse other than hope he delivers the goods. A Paypal acct will give you some security in that you can open a case to get your money refunded if you don't receive delivery.

On eBay you'll need a Paypal acct to pretty much buy anything. They're easy to open and you can tie them to your credit card. People who are sellers and big buyers have to get a "verified" account which just means Paypal wants you to tie it to a bank checking account to make sure you are who you say you are. If you go that route NEVER tie it to your household checking account. Always open a separate second acct and use it for the Paypal transactions. Why, because they can freeze that acct if the seller/buyer opens a case on you and it gets messy or costly.

Oh, and always check his eBay feedback AND read the comments. Negative feedback as a seller is difficult so one way around this is to leave a positive and write the truth in the comments. So be sure to scan a few pages of comments. Good luck and I hope this helps.
