you need to have at least 100 posts to be able to sell on here. I believe if you become an alliance meber that post count is waived. it's to help protect people here from scammers.

After you get your 100 post count some people like myself do not have the pay-pal, but sometimes I can find some very nice members that let me either send cash, checks or bank drafts.

I seem to think most of the other GJ members like the Pay-pal method.

Good luck keep posting 100 adds up fast.

I've only listed a few things for sale on this site, but I've had great luck selling them. Much better than dealing with the idiots on Craigslist imo.

What kind of tools do you have for sale?

Yes cl is a joke I had an offer of $2,500 for a $25,000 tool box $400 for a almost new matco compressor which he paid $2,600 for. As far as the tools pretty much anything you could imagin I will either cross the 100post limit tomorrow or do the paid deal so I can list

One thing to keep in mind is that used tools don't hold their value. Everyone thinks Snap On stuff means it's worth $$$, but realistically used SO stuff usually brings 1/4 to 1/2(at best) of the new price. Mac, Matco, Cornwell, etc. seem to lose even more of their value. So I'm not saying you don't have 80 to 90k in tools, but I've seen lots of guys think they have that when they really have 10k in tools on the used market and that's if they sell it piece by piece.

What area are you and the tools located in? I'm always willing to pay more face to face. That way I can examine the tools and not mess with shipping or Paypal fees.

Yeah I'm trying to get the 50% or as close as I can on most stuff

For general hand tools that's probably what I'd start off asking, but take less if offered. I suspect with a 25k tool box you're going to have to take a lot bigger loss than 50%.

The problem with big ticket items such as a $25k tool box is if it's 25k in the Snap On catalog a dealer will probably realistically sell it for $12-15k after rebates, promotions, etc. Most people buying these boxes can't afford to shell out anywhere near that for a tool box, but they are able to buy it off of the SO truck with a trade in and SO financing. Since they can't pay cash for it, that eliminates 90% of the people that want that box from being able to buy it from you.

The people actually have the money and desire to buy it will usually know that you can't sell it (and that they won't be able to either) and they don't want to pay a reasonable value for it because of that. The internet is full of expensive used SO tool boxes for $2-3k that just don't don't sell.

In fact, the majority of mechanics I know can't buy used tools because they can't afford the tools outright. Almost all of them have huge amounts outstanding on their credit account and they are forced to buy new off of the truck so that they can finance it. Used SO also doesn't have any warranty so that eliminates a lot of interest as well. Overall, it just makes selling tools for anywhere near what you have into them impossible.

As said, Mac and Matco don't really hold their value at all. They are way worse than SO when trying to sell them. For example the last auction I went to sold some Matco wrenches that looked new for $45. I looked them up on the Matco website and they were over $300 new. Mac tools were going for similar prices. Snap On does better, but they still don't bring a lot of money on the secondary market.

$25,000 used tool box must be big. What kind/model of tool box did he have?

I'm in Riverton Illinois right outside springfield il

You're only 80 miles from me. You are correct about Mac and Matco not holding values. What I see around here is Snapon and Craftsman doing well and everything else pennies on the dollar. I bought a lot of Mac sockets and wrenches a couple of years ago from a pawn shop. The guy just couldn't get anyone interested.

Yep, I bought a full set of Mac SAE impact sockets from a pawn shop for $5 a few months ago. That stuff just doesn't sell.

I think that why they were suggesting you consider keeping them. The other than Snapon truck stuff doesn't bring much. That was a steal. I gave A little over $300 for this stuff. Probably 40% Mac, 40% Craftsman and the rest mixed.

Sorry for your loss. Don't know what $25K box you have but GLWS I'd imagine you would need it. Some Snap On sells for good money but not nearly what MSRP off the truck is. MAC and MATCO seems to be a lot less in my experience. Just as a reference I've bought Snap On tool boxes loaded with Snap On, MAC and other tools for about $1000. They were undoubtedly 10x or more that amount when new. If you're patient and willing to sell individually/full sets you'll probably do a lot better than selling in bulk. Ebay is good for selling as it protects both you and buyer but it isn't cheap. Good luck I'd be interested in seeing what you have available.

I bet that took awhile to make sets out of that pile

You aren't kidding. Some of it still sits in totes. Right after I got this my Grandfather passed and left just tons of stuff (not tools). Still got a lot to do with that also. What the pics don't show is in the bottom of one of those totes was probably 50 Mac combo wrenches. I would be interested in seeing what you have when you get it sorted. That is close enough for me to drive over. I've been in Decatur twice this month already.

The flea market I went to today wanted 5 bucks a socket for snap on or Mac 3/8 to 1/2, and 1-2 for craftsman but they had I'd say a million sockets and 100k wrenches plus all other tools it so overwhelmed me when I found that place .the owners said they would take 5,000 for It all and that's a steal but would take 6 months to sort and who knows how many of what brand especially cheap stuff but I'd say they're we're 100k craftsman sockets mostly older but the good years USA stuff. It was tool heaven for sure made me feel like all I own is **** lol or all I got is crumbs. I ended up paying less for what I bought.

If you really have that much stuff to sell with that kind of value, I wouldn't waste time trying to sell it piecemeal on this or any other site. Consider a local farm type auction company. you will get on average closer to the value, and it will be done and over in one shot.

selling stuff online will take months or even a year to move it all, not to mention the work packing, shipping, emailing, etc.

you could list a few bigger items like the tool box but the bulk I would auction off and be done.

JMO, and good luck whatever you do.
