Greetings All!! Just returned from a week in sin city collecting swag, drooling over the spectacular cars, and walking up and down the aisles until my eyes glazed over. Overall, I think it was kind of a lean year for new tools. SK had their new X Frame line of ratcheting wrenches which has it's own thread. Here a couple other items of note:
GEARWRENCH: will release new pinless impact swivel sockets under their name in 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive sizes. These are the same US made versions as seen in Armstrong and MATCO trim but, with Gearwrench stamped on them. Size offerings will probably be fewer than MATCO and they aren't releasing 1/4 drive sets which, I feel is a mistake.
Gearwrench also has new snap ring pliers out which seem to be vastly improved over stamped sets.
IR: had their new 2235 impact on display. It's a beast!! at only about 4 more ounces than the 2135timax, you gain quite a bit more power.
Chicago Pneumatic: Their stubby 3/8 or 1/2 drive impacts 7731/7732 can deliver over 400 foot pounds of torque in a gun that measures only 4.4 inches from the tip of the square drive to the rear of the gun housing. The reverse/power switch can be set up for right or left hand use. CP also launched a new line of cordless tools but, I wasn't impressed with their look or feel.
Waterloo released new box series under the Professional HD line. The HD series equates to the old Magnum series and is available in 36, 39 (bottom only), 46, and 56 inch wide set ups. Single bearing slide rated 120-200 pounds and the double slide drawers are rated from 240-400 pounds. Available in red or black, the boxes looked nice.
Lisle Three small but, very useful releases. First, a simple plastic lid for their spill free funnel. The lid allows you to store the adapters in one place inside the funnel. Long over due. Next Lisle released a right angle funnel. Sounds like nothing big but, makes adding brake fluid to a mini van or def fluid to a duramex a much easier task. Lastly, Lisle has a door latch release tool that makes quick work of releasing the door handle cable from the door panel. if you do a lot of window regulators, the tool will pay for itself in one job. simple but effective tools from Lisle that will make a tech's job easier.
Channellock I know many of you are all goo goo over them releaseing new US made screwdrivers but, I wasn't impressed. They look and feel like lower end Pratt and Reed screwdrivers.
Sorry about no pictures, had technical difficulties. WOODSTOCKVA was there so, he'll probably have new reviews posted soon. With the economy on the rise, the shows were more crowded than last year and booth babes were everywhere.

Thanks for the report. That lisle door handle tool is pretty neat and only 9 bucks shipped from amazon. One went on my wish list. The "new" spill free funnel came out last year sometime and added a couple new adapters and the lid. I've been meaning to pick one of the new versions up for a while now.

So are the gear wrench pinless impacts still USA made by Armstrong just rebranded or will manufacturing move to overseas?

Is the spill free lid only part of new kits and/or separate buy only. I would love that lid but not buy another one.

So the gearwrench pinless swivels are going to be USA made then?

Yes. I expected this was going to happen. No way they were going to make an import copy at a vastly lower price. They'd undercut their own market that they already have a monopoly on. Im sure the GW sets will be priced quite a bit lower than their Matco counterparts but not the crazy low prices their chrome sockets go for.

I emailed lisle when they came out with the lid and extra adapters and asked if there was going to be an "update" kit that those of us that already have the funnel could buy and he gave me all the part numbers but said no kit. The price to buy the couple new adapters and lid and shipping was more then just buying a whole new funnel kit on amazon. Think they are around 27 bucks shipped right now.

Attendance up. BOOTH BABES UP!!! I was there and confirm these findings. They may have been wearing more clothes than during the good old days before the financial collapse, but, still pretty good.

Anyone know if the Lisle door tool is available yet? I. Take apart a lot of door panels. Or a link to it? Never mind. I found it. I watched the video and it looks MUCH EASIER than using pliers like I have been. Will be picking one up soon

Yep, I was there :)

My wife took over 2,000 pictures over the course of the week, from AAPEX & SEMA. We tried to get as many of the new tools that stood out to me as possible, but some of the tool companies were plain out rude & would not bother even talking with us....so I am sure it will not be an entire list.

We had to take the red-eye back at 11pm & arrived at 6am this morning....slept all day & now I am heading to STAFDA in Charlotte tomorrow until Tuesday. I will sort through some pictures at the hotel in NC & see what I can get uploaded for you all asap.

The new SK ratcheting wrenches actually were a nice surprise & have a very fine ratcheting action (better than gearwrench 120xp) & were not designed as a cosmetic feature, but to increase strength significantly.

Stay tuned....pictures & a SEMA overview video coming soon.... :bounce:

I have the quiet m7 version. Its really short but no where near as powerful as an MG325. I actually only used it a few times before I shelved it. It has no place for me since an ever so slightly longer MG325 has more power and if I really need to get into a tight spot I have a Hammerhead.

I have the 1/2" gun, it's a beast in small package  Fit's in tighter spots than my 2115Ti and completely outclasses it for power.

Astro had a new micro mini impact out that was "3 7/8" long" and either 450 or 500 ft/lbs at 86 decibels. I should have taken a pic. Looks similar to the M7 but just slightly shorter.

SEMA was a blast, a ton of walking, every time you turned a corner another hall full of stuff to see. I was their for 4 days and didn't cover all of it. Never even made it to AAPEX.

I spent a half-day at AAPEX. Wish I had that time back. As for the walking, we did approx. 22,000 steps each day (about 10-miles +/-) which helps burn off the junk food we ate each day.

Personally, I like AAPEX a lot more than SEMA. AAPEX is ********* and SEMA has a lot of people walking around that really shouldn't be there. I had to send in every business license I have to get in. Once there I see many, many people there that don't have the purchasing authority to buy a screw. How they get a badge amazes me. AAPEX means business, SEMA is flash and dance.

To me SEMA is booth babes, custom cars, and everything from rhinestone license plate frames to ******** speed parts for any car, plus music, bling, and tire after tire after tire with as many wheels to match. There's drifting and hoonigans demoing trucks/fiestas/and mustangs out front.
AAPEX is more about repair parts, tools, and techniques for fixing cars. I think there were fewer than ten cars total on display at AAPEX and that included 5 in the lobby. AAPEX is literally aftermarket and factory automobile and truck repair stuff. The people working the booths at AAPEX are definitely more business oriented as they cut deals/contracts with retail/fleet buyers. I always spend more time at AAPEX than SEMA. :dunno:
