I just got back from the 2011 SEMA/AAPEX shows in Las Vegas. I didn't take any tool pictures but there was lots to do and see. If someone else has posted this info elsewhere, sorry.

Gearwrench had a large SEMA display. They will come out with 84 tooth ratchets next year. They will offer them in all current styles tool include flexhead. The Gearwrench ratchet will not have a screw on gear cover. Instead they will use the thin steel cover secured with a snap ring.
Gearwrench will also come out with ratcheting flare crowfeet and ratcheting flare wrenches. I liked the extra length of ratcheting flare wrenches but, the crowfeet lacked cutouts for extension or other drive tool retention ball. Hopefully they'll add them. The ratcheting action is basically the same as what's found on their current ratcheting open end wrenches in flare nut form. They worked well on the demo blocks they had.
Gearwrench also had a ******** digital device that would add torque angle capability to any regular micrometer style torque wrench.

Over at AAPEX, SK had a good sized display of their current line up. I complained about the screwdriver handles being too large, and more like pry bar handles and less like a screwdriver handle. They had a wide display of western forge made SK branded pliers. I also told them they need to bring back their semi deep sockets.

KOKEN was also set up at AAPEX. It was the first time I had seen Koken in the flesh and they are definitely a quality product. They had some very smooth 36 tooth ratchets and nice extensions. With Koken there's a high degree of attention to deatail in the way their tools are designed and finished. They will get some of my money in the near future.

Knipex had a new version of the Cobra plier. The new version has a blue button, and features fast adjustment by just sliding the handle upward to change sizes quickly. You have to push the button to move the handle down. It will initially come out in the 9.5 inch size.

There were other tool displays such as Schley tools, Channellock, Seattle Tools, Genius, King Tony, Lisle, Craftsman and others. So much to look at, things got blurry after awhile.:wtf:

Thanks for sharing the info :)
Hopefully someone has some pics at some point to share, I'd like to see what SK is up to, as well as the other tool brands.

Is the ratcheting flare nut wrench like this?

I have one of these in a 10mm. As long as there's no clearance issues with the big head, it's a great tool.

It's awesome to hear that Ko-ken was there! Was it Ko-ken USA's booth or? I wish I could've been there to witness all their goodies.

Thanks for sharing. :)

A friend of mine is up there right now (goes every year). He told me that the vendors sell a lot of their stuff after the show is over. Any truth to that or is he just pulling my leg? I wouldn't mind picking up some "demos".

Technically, there is no sales of merchandise at the show.

However, many vendors at the show, will pre-sale items so that they have less to pack up and ship back to wherever. The problem with this is that the person purchasing the goods, usually has to wait until the show is over, and arrangements need to be made, to meet up with the vendors, after tear-down is started. This also becomes a union issue as many times, the vendors cannot move their products or goods unless a union person is doing this.

I've seen many people make arrangements with the vendor, the the vendor and the customer go over the the show decorator / labor contractor and have to pay to have the goods handled by the labor contractor, either immediately after the show, or the next day during the tear-down and packing, so the customer doesn't have to deal with the security issues.

Yes, my friend has told me a variation of this. I think I'm going to go next year and see what I can do. He told me that the vendors don't want to ship the stuff back so you can make an offer. It doesn't bother me to stay an extra day in Vegas!:lol2:

Definitely at AAPEX. AAPEX ends the Thursday before SEMA and many of the vendors sell their display tools at cost to avoid shipping them back. From EZ Red this year I got a set of Metric wrench connectors for $10 and a couple of their pocket LED lights for $5.00 each. From Lisle I got their new fan clutch wrench set and lower control arm tool for a total of $35.

Sema works differently. As has been pointed out there is no direct selling at Sema. However, many of the vendors will have show specials where they give you a flyer, or a form to fill out, or just scan your badge for follow up next week. Smoke wizard, Seattle Tool, Genius, and the Videoscope booths all had pretty good deals this year.

it is officially a no-no to do any sales at the show where you take things away from there.
there are places that will do show sales and will ship the items to you.

with that said my dad and I generally go every year (but missed this year) and take my truck.
we generally come home with the back of the truck full.
the trade show industry rapes the vendors for moving in their stuff BY THE POUND!!!! and so you can generally get deals on heavy stuff if they dont want to deal with the trouble and cost of hauling it out and shipping it back

Thanks for telling everyone about the Ko-ken booth. Technically KokenUSA paid for the booth but we displayed it as Ko-ken.

Can someone help me figure out how to upload images. I want to add some pics of the booth to this string.
