I'm not at SEMA, but I see on the Gearwrench Facebook page that they are coming out with a 90 tooth ratchet.

What's their reasoning behind an upgrade of the 84T to 90T when they already have a 120 tooth system?

Icons 90T stuff is as good as snap on. The extra 6 teeth now make their ratchets as good as snap on too! Crazy!! /s

:lol_hitti

For real tho they released quite a a few new products at sema. Flex head torque wrenches look nice

is it true ? More teeth is more strength or is it a new ratchet with more teeth and more strength... didn't see that guy talking about what the more strength was...

because the 120 has dual pawls and lots of back drag. it is also thicker and wider than the 84.

I believe more teeth actually reduces the strength of the ratchet as the teeth are smaller/finer. But they allow for better access for fastening in tight areas where the swing angle is reduced.

You tend to get more tooth engagement on fine tooth ratchets though so they are said to be stronger. In theory anyway.

The quality of this video isn't that good since it was a live stream but it covers most of the new tools at the Gearwrench booth. Also unless I heard wrong the 90 tooth are replacing the 84 tooth ratchets. They will sell the 84 tooth until they run out and will warranty the 84 tooth with another 84 tooth until they run out then they will replace the 84 tooth with the "new and improved" 90 tooth.

They already offer a full set of wrenches. The art on their boxes is always cool though and I didn't know they offered those sweet aluminum jack stands.

It was a joke. The guy asked if the large wrenches were going to be available in both standard and metric and she responded "Standard, metric and SAE!".

Might pick up that breaker bar. Are we sure it's 3/4" drive?

I've been wanting to pick up a 30"-36" breaker bar for awhile, but so far I've been too cheap to pull the trigger on a Snap-on or Matco.

With Gearwrench, they're also updating their branding. If they're going to design new handle grips, might as well update the ratchet head with their latest and greatest, right?

Gearwrench certainly has marketing nailed down

Wonder how their new 90T rats differ from all the other 90t out there, like Tekton for example.

Thanks for all the posts @cheapskate

Saw something from Astro uv glow 10mm sockets so you can find them easier when they get lost. Don't know if it was a gimmick or not

I want to know if the head thickness or size has been increased. That was the best attribute of the 84 tooth mechanism, thinness.

They didn't have any 84 tooth ratchets to compare it too. However the gear cover seems to be 2/3s or so the size of current 60/84 versions. They wouldn't let me take it apart to see any differences. The orange/black handles are shaped slightly different from current models. Gearwrench also added an orange stripe in one of the grooves in the all metal handles.

On a side note, that monster breaker bar at the ICON booth was one inch drive.

ASTRO should release their 1/2 inch drive pinless impact swivel sockets next month in time for Christmas shopping.

Overall, I feel there were fewer tool manufacturers present this year than in years past and way too many people:beer:

Was that it for Astro? IIRC Chris said they were going to announce tools that would "ruffle feathers".

I have a few pictures that I'll add when I get home. Since someone already started a SEMA tool thread, I wasn't going to start a new one this year :dunno:

I might have missed the new feather ruffling tools at the Astro booth. I know they had a high speed two piece step drill bit set that had two cutting surfaces instead of the usual one. There were some new hose clamp pliers, magnetic spark plug sockets with integral extensions, and new lighting but, I think the 1/2 drive pinless impact swivel sockets up to 24 mm in metric or 1 inch is sae grabbed my attention.

I wasn't 100% this year and may have missed some items because, of crowd size or booth location. I was happy to see a vessel tools booth at this year's show.

Lisle at AAPEX had some new hose clamp pliers, trim clip pliers, and some low profile boxed end crowfoot wrenches for oil filter housings. Lisle's new products are on their website.

It used to be all the tool vendors were in north hall. But a few years back some brainiac decided diversity was a good thing and started spreading everyone to promote more traffic. My last sema journey was a couple years ago and I found tekton and a few other players in the tents east of south hall.

This is the last SEMA for me. Vegas has turned into a nightmare of traffic and impossible parking. Maybe one day they will stop ******* with the roads there but I'm not holding my breath. At one time going to SEMA was truly fun. You could park in the gold lot across the street from the North Hall for free, I know impossible to believe isn't it, walk across the bridge and be at the show in five minutes. NOT NOW. The gold lot is now becoming an extension of the convention center and parking within two miles of the place will cost you $50.00. Riding the shuttle buses is a joke as they are never on time. I spent $45 on cab rides to and from the show from the Desert Rose Resort off of Tropicana where I always stay when I'm in Vegas. Vegas greed has reached an all time high. My friends at AirVantage had a dinner at the Lexor on Monday night and the bill for that dinner was over $1000. The greedy bastards at the Lexor would not validate David Chao's parking ticket after he'd just payed a $1000 bill. **** Vegas. At one time Vegas treated it's customers right. If you spent money they took care of you. NOT ANYMORE.

With respect to SEMA where the hell are these hordes of people coming from. I have to produce my Business License, Sales Tax Certificate and Business Card to get into the show and there are people there that OBVIOUSLY have no business being there because they clearly don't have the purchasing authority to buy a pencil. Most look like they should be washing my car at the local car wash. How the hell do these members of the hoi-polloi get into what is claimed to be a business only show? The booths are a lot smaller than they use to be for a majority of the companies I care about (Like Trick Tools) and worse yet the number of hot ****** with fake **** has been dramatically reduced. (WHAT A CATASTROPHE!) If there was any innovation there I didn't see it.

I only go to this show to see old friends like David Fisher and Chris Pettit of Astro and Mike and David Chao of AirVantage along with my pals at RTI. I hate to say it but I've become immune to the cars. I don't even see them anymore. Even Riddler award winners are just **** that gets in my way when I'm trying to get somewhere through the mass of people.

The trade show that's still a trade show is AAPEX. No ********, no flash, just how many thousands of pairs of brake pads would you like to buy. AAPEX is a business show. SEMA is a circus complete with clowns that has lost it's amusement value to me. I'm done.

agreed, the Las Vegas hotels push for every last dollar they can squeeze out of you. Quite offputting. As opposed to treating you like a guest.

So were you there for actual business, or there to see your buddies?

Everyone knows SEMA is all about social media these days. Manufacturers don't give a **** how many people stop at their booth, they care about the exposure brought to their latest products. I know the team owners I race with made the trip to go to a party put on by our tire sponsor. They also go SHOT Show with another sponsor. That's what these shows have turned into.

Yea, it was there. It's not a kind of tool that I'd ever use but Chris was pretty stoked about it. BigBlueandGoldie I'm a distributor for both AirVantage and Astro so yes it was business.

Everyone's favorite, the tool bear does a walk through of the Tekton booth. Doesn't give much commentary but shows what they carry.
