Does anyone know who makes semi-deep or mid-length 1/2 drive chrome metric sockets? If you could please list brand and part number please.
I know Genius makes impact ones, but I'm looking for chrome ones. Thanks.

Edit. I took some screenshots from Proto's catalog showing the length specs for standard, intermediate, and deep sockets so you can compare the lengths and see if the intermediate sockets are what you are after.
Are these screenshots taken from a newer Proto catalog? The pdf catalog I have doesn't include these part numbers. I see them on their website, but the website leaves a lot to be desired. I guess I'm off to search for a newer catalog...

The screen shots are from what should be the newest Proto catalog. On the Proto main page go to the support tab and click "catalog" from the drop down menu. I agree on the Proto website being bad and looking through the catalog I see at least one thing that is still out of date. The web catalog shows the handled pry bars as having a clear yellow handle. For a little while now (maybe a year?) when I purchase new they instead have a grey/black striking cap handle similar to Mac pry bars. An upgrade to be sure, but it annoys me that they haven't updated that fact.

I think Icon does 1/2 drive mids. I have Gearwrench mids in 1/4 and 3/8. They might have a 1/2 set. SK deep in 3/8 is more like mid length too... Haven't checked their 1/2 drive stuff. Might be worth a look. Don't know any part numbers off the top of my head though.

Neither Icon or Gearwrench make them, impact or chrome. Or at least not that I have seen.

Snap On doesn't have chrome, but they do make an impact version. Not much call for 1/2" semi deep sockets.

I have some Napa Carlyle ones in 3/8 drive. Might look to see if they offer them in 1/2 as well, Im not sure.

SK used to have their "deeps" be mid-legth to a point, then transition to a more normal "deep" length. Depends on what size you need.

Pretty sure most people can get away with only owning 1/2 drive in deep impacts. Esp if you got chrome 3/8 drive up to 24mm

if 1/2 deep won’t fit and 3/8 drive isn’t strong enough to hit your 21s your 22s and your 24s then break it with a combination wrench and then switch to your 3/8 chrome

if your 27 mm won’t fit a 1/2 deep impact then who designed this car where a huge bolt is buried like that 😂

if you wanted to be streamlined you could go
3/8 8 mm to 24 mm shallow, deep, and mid all in chrome
1/2 start at whatever size you want like 14 mm maybe to deal with JIS M10s and just do deep impact
1/4 just do shallows chrome

it’s a slippery road to try to get everything you wind up with shallow mid and deep chrome and impact in 6 point and 12 point for 1/4 and 3/8 and 1/2 and once you got all that you start making posts asking about 3/4 drive and then you really got problems

I could see a legitimate reason to own semi-deep 1/2” chromes for work, but I’m machining not auto. The deep 1/2” sockets are just unwieldy and cumbersome for a lot of situations. I am usually rocking a 1 1/2” extension with the shallows. The semi-deep would probably eliminate the use of the extension but still be manageable for maneuvering around the vises and machinery.

I have the intermediate 12pt metric sockets in 1/4” drive. They are pretty neat. All my home sockets are Proto and I like the 12pt a lot better than the 6pts. They are thinner and fit fasteners well. The 6pts are a bit beefier.
Have you measured actual ODs for 6 vs 12 of the same brand?

The 6pt look thicker and are definitely heavier since there is more material, but the times I've measured ODs I've found them to be the same on most brands. (Catalogs agree.)
