semi deep socket trays holders

I have a problem storing semi deep 1/4" drive semi deep sockets. They originally came on metal clip rails but I have switched all the rails out for mechanics time savers in various colors.

I cannot seem to find any sort of tray that holds semi deep 1/4dr sockets well.

I was thinking about getting a mechanics time saver model 720 and cutting down the deep side so its flush with the shallow side to store both standard and metric semi deep sockets.

snap on socket. I have no issue storing 3/8dr semi deeps, the fit in the MTS shallow trays just fine.

any thoughts?

Why wouldn't semi-deeps be fine in a shallow socket MTS holder?

If not. I;d buy the 720 and make plugs for the deep holes to raise the semi deeps up instead of mdoifying the tray unless you have access to the correct tols to make it look finished.

The semi-deep world is not verly loved. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I use mine on the deep part of the HF trays. I have shallow/semi deep on one and universals/deeps on another behind it. I don't think I had to modify it for the semi deeps but if so it was just to clip off the top cylindrical part of the pegs (not the square drive parts) on a few. It was obviously needed for the universals and i did it all at one time so I can only be about 95% sure but I don't think any needed to be done for the semis.

My semis are GW in case it makes a difference.

I had bought some of those similar looking trays like hanson has but they are made by grip I think. they are alright but the real problem with those are the quality. the squares are too big and misshaped to fit sockets loosely. otherwise you have to take the whole tray to the vise, clamp it, and use a needle nose pliers to get what socket you want because they are on the tray way too tight.

mechanics time saver only makes like 2-3 different trays for all 1/4dr sockets, only one of those are for complete sets which accommodates shallow and deep only, the other trays are for swivel sockets...

I have the westling trays and like them a lot but I think the spacing on them is too generous. For me at least, the HF ones were easier to squish all the sockets in the same space.

I like the westlings for things like hex/torx/odd sizes. Generally my sockets aren't stored on them though.

I see you figured something out, but figured Id chime in with this. I have 1/4 drive semi deep snapon sockets that came in a holder like this, that works nice.
I also got the semi deep 3/8" impact metric set that came with the free standard set.. they use the same style rack and its great

I planed off 5/16" from the deep row to fit the semi-deeps in there.

Just too bad MTS doesn't make a three row organizer considering semi-deep sockets are now pretty common.

Easy enough to make a wood block, spend a little time finishing it and it doesn't look much different than MTS.

I did the same thing 15 hrs ago, took a mts, cut the deep side down and put both metric and sae in it. Works great and real handy to grab and go.
