Building a shop / house - got one of these superduper Senco screwguns -

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Senco-DuraSpin-Cordless-Auto-Feed-Screw-Driver-System-2P0001N/100615087

and got these underlayment screws for screwing my OSB to 2x6 joists -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221290959020?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

So I adjust the gun to the right screw length fire it up and try it on a piece of 2x12 I had laying around and it just never really bites - it spins the screw so fast it basically just burns its way into the wood and when I'm done I can take a square bit in my fingers and pull it out.

Maybe I'm missing something completely obvious, but I see no way in hell a screwgun turning so fast can drive these screws into wood.

Just to double check I tried the same setup on OSB into some 2x4 and the same result. AND, I took my old cheapass drill, stuck a square drive in it, took some of the discarded senco screws and drove them in with no problems in the (much) slower hand drill.

What gives ?

Never mind - I am truly an idiot - I had the button pushed in so the screws were reversing not driving in. Works quite nicely actually.

so there's this button see...

glad it's working for you. check out HD's clearance see if they have the bits for it. It doesn't take standard 1/4" hex. I know it's bigger but not sure the exact size. HD sells replacement bits for the Ridgid clone of it, pretty sure they fit it. Last I saw they were $3 down from 9.

Don't feel too bad. I've had buddies do that exact same thing when using my duraspin attachment.
Side note: I love mine! Used it for all the drywall in my recently renovated house (about 69 sheets total), on decks, underlayment before I lay tile, pretty any kind of sheet goods that get attached with screws.
I have yet to get any stainless screws for it, maybe when I finally get around to building my deck.

Glad to hear that you like it, since I got one and a whole gaggle of screws for mine when Seven Corners Hardware closed down here. Got 'em all at about 50% off, but haven't gotten a chance to use it yet.

Years ago, I was once given a Makita 6095 that was supposedly broken. It turned out that the reversing switch was halfway between forward and reverse so wasn't making contact for either direction. It took me a long time to notice that and I felt a right idiot afterwards!
