This chisel was in a tool chest I bought in June. All of the tools inside were older than the Korean War, and probably older than WWII. This one looks like it started life as a cold chisel, and was modified by a prior owner. The interesting thing is the markings:
SENTER PORTLAND OR

The "PORTLAND OR" is deeply stamped in block letters. It clearly was stamped separately from the other, very fancy, logo stamping. Two letter state abbreviations were instituted by the Post Office in July of 1963, but I cannot believe that this chisel was made that late with such a fancy logo.

The arrow through the name, with the center two letters surrounded by the circle, and the arrow piercing a bullseye in the center of the circle are very early 20th Century (or older) logo art. it is obviously hand-stamped, since it is not centered or aligned with the shaft.
I have not been able to connect this name with any business in the Portland area by using the Internet. Perhaps a study of Portland business directories in the early 20th Century would pan out.
Even if it remains a mystery, it is a very cool logo!
