40 year old system. My parents were the previous owners from new. Always had a septic issue from early on. Their solution was to just get it pumped every couple years. They always had it pumped from the inlet lid never outlet.

I recently had it pumped but out of curiosity I dug up the outlet (out to drain field) lid and there was a mass of roots fully filling up the outlet pipe coming in to the tank. So I dug up the other side of the tank and this is what I found.

From what I can tell it looks like the tank was never hooked up to the dbox. To the best of my knowledge and my parents memory this side of the tank has never been disturbed since the house was built.

There’s no way the box could have settled 6+inches in there?

How have you never had both sides of the tank checked/pumped?

If the box sank there is going to be a hole there where the pipe use to be.

We had issues at work once and after some exploring I found a pipe that came out of the septic tank that I assumed went to a drain field.
A little more exploring and I found a cesspool(large pit made out of cinder block with gaps to allow liquids to seep out) looked brand new inside found there was a pipe running between the two.....1/4 bubble up hill from the septic tank the cesspool never worked in the 22 years the building was there.....

It’s an old fiberglass single chamber tank with no baffle the access holes are to get access to the inlet and outlet. So you can pump it down all the way from either side.

I’m going to dig up the distribution box tomorrow.

I guess my main wonder is if was never hooked up would the drain field likely still be good? Or does it need to be saturated constantly?
