Hey guys,

So I’ve been looking for a new tool box for a few months now to use professionally. I’ve been running a cheap mastercraft since 2012 and it’s time to upgrade and spoil myself a bit. This guy was originally asking $4910 for this krl1163 but his bottom line he went down to is $3400. I went and looking at it today and it’s a nice box and deep. It has some small scratches here and there since it’s been in a shop from 2016... nothing major tho.

Do you guys think $3400 is a smokin deal?

For $3400 is should be cherry; no scratches. I don't think black drawer handles look good on a red box, but that's a personal preference thing.

Any box that has been worked out of will have small scratches. Not gouges to the bare metal, but scuffs and nicks.

I'd call that a good deal. I'm somewhat in the market for another box and would be very interested in that if it was local. My current box and locker are red, and I haven't convinced myself to have multiple colors.

Not bad, try chip off bit more .
Reality is not many going turn up with 3400 cash let alone 4K+
3K be good or even 200 off seems it not mint .
They a nice box but no extras on that one so no point paying too high .
exact price partially down to your needs and how convenient this box is for you .

That’s definitely a regional thing, in my region it’s 2500 to 3500. But it depends how much you need it I will try to go for 3000 even. If you need it now then it’s a no brainer. I waited 2 years to get my KRL1022 for 1900. Just depends how much time you have on your hands

Thanks for the feedback. Yea it’s definitely a regional thing but it kind of bothered me how there were scratches here and there. I feel like I could get a mint one for the same price if I was patient. I might go a different route then.

I would consider making him a 3k offer respectfully perhaps as to you that what condition values it at .
Really only you know what it worth to you and as we ain't seen it in person we can't reflect as good a judgement as you .
It going get some marks on it used professionally, just tidy it up, add some vinyl protection a ply and rubber diy top and put it to work .
Not that cheap a box off the truck on a good deal day and it pretty usable layout and 29" depth gobbles tools ...
It be a good work box buy for someone, better than taking credit and new price ****** off the truck or going 2-3K in cheap brand boxes .
Good thing with used box too is if keep it tidy and made a decent looking top you sell it for anything between 2.5 to 3.5K and get your use time out of it too .

I agree it all depends on your area. I waited for a long time for the right box/deal.

I got this KRL 1163 for $2800.

Not mint, but very good/excellent condition.

Picture was taken before I cleaned it up.

Yeah that 1163 looks really nice with those extra deep drawers. I don’t like a lot of thin drawers. And I think you paid the perfect price for it. Not a desperation price, but a very fair price and a great deal. Gd luck finding a mint used toolbox. An 1163 is a Professionals tool box And I don’t see how anybody could work out of it for over two years without having some scratches and scuffs here and there. By scratches I’m referring to ones that don’t break through the paint. That’s also why I would avoid buying brand new because I know I’m going to scratch it anyway. Maybe some people are more careful than I am.

Thanks.
Each to his own but I didn’t want all the shallow drawers. All depends what you put in them. I had to lay a bunch of stuff down instead of standing them up because they would hit and couldn’t close the drawer in my other box. Wasted a bunch of space.

I agree that it’s going to get scratched. There are a few scratches, but nothing major. The pictures posted in the sale ad were terrible. Couldn’t tell the real condition of the box, so I took a chance and went to go look at it. I was really surprised when I saw it. I feel I definitely got a fair deal

After I cleaned it up, and showed my daughter, she thought I bought a brand new box. When I told her it was used she couldn’t believe it.

Very Satisfied purchase

Silly Philly, are you in Canada by chance? You said have a mastercraft tool box, which likely came from Canadian Tire. Also noticed the pictures you posted say Telus, which is phone carrier in British Columbia, Alberta & Ontario. Assuming that price is in Cdn dollars, $3400 is a steal! That is $2500 USD. That box was likely close to $14,000 Cdn new 4 years ago. My KRL1032 in 2012 was over 10g Cdn(I didn't pay that either), now its close to 16g.

Yes I am in Alberta, I converted the price to USD here already, 3400 USD (4500 CAD) just to get accurate opinions. I actually just scooped up a macsimizer instead for a lot cheaper. I was more comfortable spending a lot less on this one. It’s 67” longish 27” deep which works well for me. Guy paid 9k CAD for it 2 years ago and I scooped it for 2.5k CAD (1900 USD).

I like that box, triple bank length with a 2 bank layout. I love full length drawers. And the price was right

A professional mechanic purchasing a quality tool box is investing in himself. Having a well made box that keeps everything organized and accessible is a great time saver and will pay for itself in due time. As a used purchase, it can always be sold in the future as used snap on boxed hold their value very well.

Unfortunately investing is not easy and one must be extremely cautious with the current economy which is propped up by low interest rates compliments of the federal reserve. I would be very hesitant to invest in companies currently as the majority of them are overvalued. That $3,000 could just as quickly turn in to $1,000.

It requires a great deal of time and knowledge to properly research public companies. It is a 40 hour a week job in and of itself just for the experts and scoring even a 20% return is quite rare even over a long period of time.

You done well on the MAC
enjoy the box .
MAC and Matco tend be the better price used buys as Snap-on demands more as a fashion label brand .
All my shop boxes are used Matco's as got some great used deals and flipped few used snap-on boxes that paid for it all .
My lad wanted buy a used MAC macsimizer 3 bay plus side drawers in saphire blue as price and potential haggling would of made it real cheap . Didn't really need it but hard pass up a potential real bargain box .
Used truck brand boxes is some of best money you ever part with and soon can be reverted back to same cash if needed .
I never regretted used boxes a bought but do regret some I didn't act quick enough on .
These days not so many good deals about but if you truly looking and prepared get off your **** and make some effort you will find something .

I don’t get why people post that kind of stuff on here. If I wanted financial advice I’d be posting on a financial forum. Between my wife and I we make great money. If I’m thinking about buying a tool box it obviously means I have the budget to do so. IPfreely you’re absolutely right, I use it in a professional capacity in a heavy duty diesel/equipment shop almost everyday for who knows how many years. Also I work a fair bit of overtime and when you come in for overtime they expect you to work for it, going to a heap of tools at your tool box is not ideal.

Nice buying on the Mac box, old buddy has the same size but in red. It takes a beating from him. Stands up well.
