Ok, so my two car garage is limited on floor space. I had been looking to add a quality tool box that will fit a reasonable amount of tools without breaking the bank. Problem was it needed to be a bench top because the floor space limitations.
As I'm a mechanic by trade my large toolbox and tools are at work like most of us. So over the years my collection for the house had grown, the whole reason behind this.
So I had an idea, I picked up this cornwell cart for $200 in really good shape. Having one similar in Matco at the beginning of my career I was familiar with the design and quality is good.
I removed the legs and replaced them with 2x2 aluminum angle, drilling out the holes in the angle was the most time consuming part. I honestly wanted to just cut the original legs after removing the plastic bumpers. I decided to go this route in case I ever decided to go back to the cart. And I thought the aluminum corners would give it kind of a custom look. Using 1/4 by 1/2" carriage bolts gives it the factory look and allowed my alignment of the new trim to line up easier. Overall I'm very happy with the outcome for the price. These boxes have some nylon feet pegs underneath on each corner that gave me the idea to surface mount the box. What do you guys think? Just thought I'd share!
