The service door on my shop is a steel frame, steel door, 36". The building is heated at 50 degrees all winter. R19 walls covered by OSB and 3" spray foam on the roof deck. Modine Hot Dawg 75 Heater.
As you'll see in the pics, during cold snaps the door ices up. I get a pretty good layer of frost/ice all the way around. The pics were taken during a cold 10 degree day, not a bitter cold -20 day. Obviously the problem is worse the colder it gets.
I am trimming the shop out now with 1x3 Pine. I plan to trim the door out (1x6 pine) as well but I am concerned with the level of frost/ice that appears on the door. Wouldn't this ruin/rot the trim? Any thoughts/suggestions/remedies?
Temporarily, the fix has been to keep a fan blowing on the door. The helps significantly but is annoying to move a big fan every time I go in and out.
So has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!!
