I was lucky. I happened to have a 3" PVC in the ground going from my pole to the meter. That is what they require for the 320A service. Diden't pay for the last person to up-size the conduit, but it sure worked out for me.

New codes require us to have a CB outside the house as well as to protect the feeder.

The "new" code requires a disconnect outside the house for the dwelling so the fire department can shut it off. They don't care about your garage. Even before that change you would have had to install the cb for the garage because you can't go more than 25' off the meter without overcurrent protection

I'm just hoping I don't have to put in a second CB outside the house for the main house when I upgrade the house to 320A. I get mixed opinions on that as to weather or not the house will be grand fathered. I have a feeling I'm going to need a second CB.

Actually, I don't. Maybe it's in the DM amendments, but that's what our limit is. Apparently, I wrongly thought it was NEC. DM is the only place I've ever worked where it was even a consideration to go more than 25'.

Of course, they also make us do this when a panel gets changed for anything other than a repair...
