Service lines through floor Joist

Can they be run through wood floor joists? If so what is the maximum amps and proper hole size?

Trying to figure the best route for hundred amp service to a garage subpanel

Depends is the answer. You cannot weaken the structure, 1 general rule is not in the center 1/3 span of the joist. Amps are irrelevent.

The issue is where you drill the holes & how large the holes you drill, what size are the joists?

I'll answer this question! The proper hole size is 3/4, too small a hole can cause stress on the cable.

I could be wrong but if I so it will get you an answer faster, some people around here just love to jump on a wrong answer

Some good rules of thumb so far but you are probably looking for something more specific. There are guidelines for how big the holes can be in different parts of the joist. Here is one I came up with on a quick search.

Yes it can be run through joists. The hole size depends on the size of cable or conduit that needs to fit though.

I forgot to measure the joist but I think it’s 8”

Itdidn’t occur to me to have more than one hole, which makes sense from a wood stability Standpoint.

I have an electrician coming over tonight will take a look at what i want to do and go from there.

They hack out large chunks vaguely resembling holes use recipe saws.
