Hi All,
Got my pole barn 100 amp service box connected. I ran 4 wires from the 200 amp house panel. It's a 220' run. I ran #1 cu for the hots and neutral and # 6 cu for the ground. I un-bonded the service panel and connected it up. When I went to make the connections in the house noticed I had no ground wires. The house has conduit and had been updated to 200 amp service in the '90s. The pole barn is required to have conduit also. There is a ground rod by the house. It goes into the meter panel outside of the house but not into the panel in the house. Should I hook up the ground wire to the metal panel or to the neutral bar? The neutral is isolated from the panel with no wires connecting the two on the house panel. The meter panel has security tags so, not sure if I should pull those to check the actual ground connection. I do have the two ground rods connected at the barn ground as required.
Thanks, Bob

The key thing here is do u have a disconnect on your meter panel?

If no, then the panel in your house is your main service panel. Sounds like The GEC(ground wire to electrode/rods) is bonded to the neutral in your meter pan.

If the above is what u have, then u would terminate the neutral and ground in the feeder, to the neutral bar in your service panel.

Can u post pics of your panels with the covers removed?

U said u unbonded the service panel? I sure hope u didnt. The neutral bar SHOULD be bonded in your service panel. Or are u referring to the panel in your garage in which case that is considered a subpanel...

The small conduit on the right and a black wire are connected to the ground rod on the meter panel. Only three 3/0 conductors come into the Service Panel in the basement.

As long as the 4th wire coming from the new install is hooked to the N in the main panel you are good to go. Its not a real deal but would move the green wire down to the rod connection, there is no reason to invite a lightning strike on the enclosures, send it right to the rod.

It looks like its got a bond screw, any bare or green wires you bring in here can go to the N bar and in the case of a sub would prefer it even if someone has added another G bar.

Ok since theres no disconnect on the outside, your panel pictured IS your main service panel.

Is the neutral bar bonded to the enclosure and the ground bar(not pictured)? If not it most definitely should be! U definitely want to check this!

Now since this is your main service panel, u can land the feeder's neutral and ground/EGC wires on the same bar...
