Service station air compressor?

Depends on what year air station your talking about!! the older ones pull good money over $400 and up. in good condition, now just the new square box hang on the wall type im sure can be had for peanuts..If you ever see the old post style one at a yard sale or where ever for cheap grab IT!!! THE KIND WITH THE DIAL WHEEL FOR AIR PRESSURE. there big bucks good idea!! mad57.

I have been looking for one of these for years. Along with the old bell and hose that rang when cars pulled up for fuel.

Hundreds of Gulf gas stations used a Fero Air Pump. I have one and it is quiet and runs great even thought it's at least 70 years old.

They were made until the late 1930s according to the web site of the grandson of the company founder.

Hi Folks, I'm new to your forum and I'm hoping that one side benefit may be additional information on the use of Fero Air Pumps in service stations. As John Timmons posted, the service station market in general, and Gulf Oil stations in particular were the main customers and the vertical CB30 (in Gulf orange with the Gulf Oil logo on the tank) was the most common model.

John Timmons does, in fact, one one of the Fero compressors that was delivered under the contract with Gulf Oil. I know of a half-dozen or so Fero Air Pumps that are still "out there" and being used. I'm fortunate to have been able to acquire three myself.

Hi Folks, My hobby is collecting and restoring old stationary gas engines from the late 1800's through the early 1930's.

One observation that I like to share with visitors to the engine shows where we display our toys, is the design philosophy of the day. "If five pounds of cast iron is good, 25 pounds would be better." A "small" 1-1/2 hp gas engine (typical IHC "M", for example) would run 325 lbs and a 10 hp 2180 lbs. Not something to put on your garden rototiller. The 1-1/2 hp and 3 hp (460 lbs) were regarded as "portable" and were supplied on skids with hand grips! A cart with wheels was optional at extra cost.

The Fero product that I get the biggest kick out of is this vacuum cleaner.

Fo my FERO Air Pump's 75th birthday it got new wires, belts, a new GULF decal, and a paint job. Mechanically it still runs perfectly, loading and unloading, start at 80 and cut out at 125.
I've had this 30 years and when I got it back then I painted it and I could see that earlier paint jobs covered up a GULF sticker.
Arnie Fero's web site aboce says FEROs were made from 1900 to the late 1930s and had a contract to supply compressors for GULF. Guards over belts were not an issue back in those days.
