Not sure where else to put this. I'm looking to purchase a backpack to carry my laptop and a few tools. Mostly some precision screwdrivers, a few wrenches and some cable stripping and crimping tools. Also a decent number of small adapter cables/usb cables to communicate with different hardware in the field. Anyone have an recommendations? Some days I might barely need the tools so it's main purpose is carrying my laptop but it would be nice to have a few tools in the bag I use commonly to troubleshoot things without lugging my whole tool bag or cart around. My laptop bag is getting too cramped.

I have a Targus back pack. I know three other individuals, who have no complaints. It is extremely flexible. The lap top protection is superb. Durability has been great. It is over 2 years old and looks fresh(I carry it everyday). Comfortable when weight is below 35 lbs.

It cost a pretty penny for a backpack(80, i didn;t shop around so you may find a good deal) but their products work and last. I still use a Targus laptop bag(Its over 8 years old).

Here is a link to it.

I would recommend using some tool rolls for better organization, given your needs listed.

I just use those sling-type messenger bags on the off occasion. I just bought a nice timbuk2 one "used" (but not really) for like 5 bucks. Backpacks generally annoy me because you have to take them off to get at the contents.

If it's a: "I WANT a bag but don't really need it or have the will to spend 100 bucks on something" you can check ebay or a store like savers. I get a lot of used promo bags from local businesses from them in the 3-5 dollar range but I live in a resort area so...

They also have those military spec ones but the "real" ones tend to be pricey. That's not a ton of tools, they could probably fit in a slider bag in a regular laptop bag.

If you want something you can drag through hell and back, and still have the bag look good and be functional / undamaged, you want a Maxpedition bag. They're sort of expensive. The one I took into the field was rode hard and put away wet, on a daily basis, and is still the meanest bag in town.

I have 4 different Chrome bags. All for different uses. I like them. Water proof, tough as nails, and MADE IN THE USA.

I don't have a TAD bag but do own some of their clothing. Top notch gear with a hefty price tag. American made and awesome...If their bags are anything like their jackets and pants, it'll last a lifetime.

Another American made bag manufacturer. Baily makes high quality stuff. I have a messenger bag that I use to use A LOT. However adjusting the strap seemed cumbersome and I started to gravitate to my Chrome bags more.

The problem with packs is all about how you organize your tools. Roll up tool pouches are awesome and are great at protecting your pack. Screw drivers, picks, and the like always seem to wear a hole in the sleeve they were designed for......
