So I live in Sacramento in a neighborhood built in the 40s/50s, and it has a set back garage behind the house. I absolutely LOVE it! First off our driveway to the gate is long enough for three big vehicles. Could probably fit four compacta. Its a bit annoying to hace to move my wifes car out of the way if she parks behind me, but not a huge deal.
The best part is that behind the gate there is.enough room for another car, plus the two car garage.

I like to move cara back here for repairs. If I need to run to the parts store or something I dont have to worry about putting all ny tools back in the garage, I just lock the gate.
Neighbors dont complain about repairs in front of the house. And I still have room in the garage itself for my project car!
Anyone else out there have a setback garage and love it?

Getting ready to add 8 more feet onto the back side. Outside dimensions will be 24'x34' when done. Need more room for storage. :3gears:

Mine is similar because my lot is somewhat narrow:

I never considered a fence or gate, but maybe some day. I have room for both cars side by side and either can get out. I like it this way too.

Snow is done via snow blower, so not too bad to clean up.
