Depending on access you might be able to use a "boom truck" instead of a crane. They rent for about 1/3 price of full crane around here. Most crane places have both and can tell you the difference such as reach and height of each. Set up time is much lower on boom truck also, as cranes have large outriggers that may require large timbers to get to a level condition.

Just out of curiosity... lifting one end of the 30' trusses at a time from the ground would never have worked with 16' sidewalls, would it? You had to "ladder" them up the girts, right?
I'm also curious... did you pour the slab already, or are you going to get the roof up first?

We tried lifting one end of the truss up by hand but it was just too high. We ended up lifting the trusses right side up and zig-zagging them between the wall girts up to the top. The boom lift I rented was essential to setting the trusses and getting the purlins installed also.

The trusses are 30ft wide with one foot overhang on each side. The sidewalls are 16ft tall. Originally I had planned to do everything myself+friends but after standing the posts up and seeing how far up there the trusses have to go I just don't feel comfortable doing it.

Your smart in backing out of something that you are not comfortable doing. what ever the cost to install or place is well worth it.

I built my shop last summer and I hired 3 really good carpenters and they did the whole roof system from the top plate up. Trusses, sheeting , installed the metal and all the boxing. There is no way I could have done the quality work they did and it took 3 of them 36 hours to put the complete roof system on.

I got my walls up and am looking to do the same thing. Where in NC are you?
