Hello All I'm looking for ideas to set up a new storage shed ( 12 x 28 ). So many of you have been down this road and may have begun to have some ideas as to what the finished shed or garage would look like when finished, however those plans may have changed before the project was completed. So what would you have changed for the better (IE) lighting, electrical outlets, shelving, door and window locations to name a few.

In order to get valid suggestions, you should tell us what you plan to do in the shed.

This being Garage Journal, brace yourself for the guys who will say you need twelve 5000 lumen light fixtures, a separate 20 amp circuit serving each of the 4 walls with receptacles every 2 feet, plus the 240 volt receptacles all around for all the welders and plasma cutters and 80 gallon air compressors, not to mention wiring for the HVAC you’ll need in the near future. :)

Shiftless - This shed will be primarily used for vehicle and lawn mower maintenance and storage. Need the best lighting locations, along with storage ideas for the maintenance items (tools, oil & filters, auto & small engine oils the shed will have a 7 x 9 garage door on each end and a man door in the center

Are you planning to hardwire the fixtures?

It sounds like you’re not doing precision work so I suggest using twin tube 4 foot long LED fixtures spaced crosswise and evenly spaced up the middle.

You can use an online calculator or look at the layouts already done.

Depending on the lumen output of the fixtures you can find, you’re probably going to be happy with maybe 5 of them.

12 wide for automotive work? You need to go wider just to be able to pump up a floor jack on the side of a car. Are you talking about a shed with a floor, or building on a concrete slab? I will say, check your county zoning setbacks. In my area I can put in a "shed" within 3' of the property lines. But a building that cannot be moved has to have a 10' property setback.
I just ordered a 12X24 yesterday for my riding mower and just general **** we need to store or have in a storage unit we are currently paying $150 a month for right now.

My shed for similar storage is 10x30. I used 3 garage door size openings down the side so everything is close to a door. Good for mowers and such, and all my 3ph attachments fit, but I can't store my 30hp tractor there unless I remove the front loader. I made swinging doors because it was a cheap way to go. I'd do it again.
