Seville Classics Ultra HD vs Gladiator vs Kobalt cabinets vs ???

Sold locally and online...anyone have any experience with these things?

Edit: Decided to make this a one stop comparison thread while I do some research.

Thoughts?

-----------------------------------------------------

Seville - sold online or thru Sams Club (so might need to purchase a membership)
Rolling storage is $190

Cabinets are $60

-----------------------------------------------------

Gladiator
Gladiator rolling storage can buy from Sears for $290 each (on sale plus $35 VISA coupon, reg overpriced @ $400)

and

Gladiator cabinets are $143 each for 2 w/ $35 VISA coupon, but I already have 2 of them, might go on sale again for $100 a piece on Black Friday (should have bought 4 like I wanted!). These are the higher end welded kind.

-----------------------------------------------------

Kobalt - couple different versions some higher and some lower priced I tried to pick the middle
Kobalt tall cabinet $245 ($225 w/ 10% off coupon, plus $20 for 4 casters)

and

Kobalt wall cabinet $123 w/ 10% off coupon

I want to make everything movable in my garage that isn't mounted to the wall, this looks maybe an affordable option as opposed to the Gladiator system which is $290 for the rolling storage. I have 2 cabinets I bought on Black Friday for $100 a pop, they are quality made in USA not sure if the rolling storage units are or not.

Not sure of the quality of the Seville stuff.

Reading the reviews the Kobalt units have pegboard molded into them so you can use hangers to put stuff up. Huge advantage there, although they are fairly high priced and close to the Gladiator pricing.

This will be a long time purchase, what I'm buying will be taken down when I move...so buy it once...

A lot of people like the Seville products. I have the rolling workbench and although it isn't the worst I've seen, I'm not really impressed.

I have two of the Seville rolling storage cabinets and 4 of the wall cabinets. I have no problem with them whatsoever. I do not have any of the Gladiator line though so I can't really make any comparison between the two.
I would buy more of the Seville line tomorrow if I needed them.
Hope that helps..

I have 3 of the seville wall cabinets, they were cheap..i was really holding out for something older and unique but couldn't any longer. Haven't had any problems been about 9 months, but it's not like they get abused or need to be as sturdy as a workbench

The cabinet metal and coating seems decent enough for my purposes there. The doors are pretty thin gauge but haven't had any problems with them.

I have my lathe mounted on the Seville workbench. It's rated at 1000 lbs - there's at least that stored in it. The lathe is 350.

Heavy stuff in the drawers

I also used the wall cabs - nice parts.

I did look at the Sears Red (too much $$$ for basically less than a Seville) and Gladiator (meh).

I'd spend the extra on the Gladiator brand. It is made by Whirlpool, I think. I have 6 of them and love them. I comparison shoppe against the Seville brand. Talked to guys who had both and decided on the gladiator.

Looked at the Gladiator, went with Seville. The Gladiator stuff looked like it wouldn't survive the trip to the check out, let alone across the parking lot to my truck.

Which Gladiator stuff? The welded stuff is made in the US and it's pretty decent. I've heard the ready to assemble stuff isn't so great. I don't know where the tall cabinet is made though or if it's welded or not. For $400 bones retail it better be US made. I'll find out on Mon.

Right now I'm really digging the Seville wall cabinets. Seem to be decent quality and only $60 a pop. Problem is if I go with them I'm kinda locked into their 72" rolling cabinet as well, as I want everything to match...not a big deal but that Kobalt really interested me with the peg board inside.

thanks! all left over stuff, slatwall was scraps i had, the lights were some i had laying around the house, i used some little magnets and 99 cent epoxy like this:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=163001&d=1326747780

and some zip tie stick on mounts to hold the wires tight.

Also picked up some magnet hooks at hf, they come in handy for hanging keys and stuff under the cabinets

Those are pretty sweet, I'd like to do something like that maybe. I want to install LED lighting under the kitchen cabinets, always liked the look of them.

Gladiator all the way. The Premier series (welded) is Made in the USA. If you shop around, scope out Craigslist and wait for some good sales at Sears and use your Sears points you can get it at decent prices. Ive been working on my collection for the last 2 years, and Ive been lucky to run into some ridiculous prices.

I am satisfied with the quality, however I see that some have hang-ups about the RTA cabinets. They actually are pretty decent for general household garage use.

I dont know about the Kobalt line; the metal is of decent thickness and it does look space-agey...however the floor cabinets are too tall to stow under a workbench. So all they have is an MDF top for the floor cabs. That doesnt work for me...

Ok went and looked at all 3 today.

Quick summary:

Seville
"Ok". The rolling cabinet has nice big 5" casters. I'm not too fond of the cheesy "stainless steel" look though. But they are cheap.

Kobalt
Seemed to be made fairly well. The large 72" cabinet is Chinese and the smaller cabinets come in 14" and 20" depths and are both USA made. The only thing is the casters on the 72" unit are very small and pretty crappy. You have to buy them so I could get 5" casters from HF for about the same cost.

Gladiator
I like the wall cabinet. Not that fond of the rolling 66" cabinets. The casters were great, IIRC 5", but seemed put together a little worse than the Kobalt.

Leaning toward the Kobalt with HF 5" casters on them at this point

Back to this.

Seville is out, only 3 shelves in it. It's tall but you actually have less "shelf space" due to the one less shelf.

So, Kobalt vs Gladiator.

Internal dimensions of the Kobalt are 64x16x29. 4 shelves. Shelf space of 1856 sq in.
Internal dimensions of the Gladiator are 59.5x17x30. Shelf space of 2040 sq in.

So the Gladiator actually has more "shelf space" in sq in. than the Kobalt, although it's about 5" shorter internally. I wish the Gladiator was 72" tall, would've made this a LOT easier. I'm afraid of getting the Gladiator and regretting the 5" in storage lost (looks like a lot when they are side by side). Price was roughly $235+tax for each if my ebates.com 10% cashback comes thru. Kobalt would've been roughly $265+tax with the craptastic 3" casters on it, the Gladiator has some really nice 5" casters. Pre-welded and assembled, and made in the USA.

Upside with the Kobalt, going to verify tomorrow, but I think you actually have an inch or so to hang things on the inside of the door with the pegboard. Not sure how deep the clearance is, I'm going to try hanging a level tomorrow on their tester. If you can do that, you'll gain a lot of space...and maybe I'll return the Gladiator ones I bought.

Hope this helps other folks looking at these.

Also after buying the Gladiator wall cabinets I happened upon the Craftsman Professional wall cabinets. IMO they are better, their doors have shelves on them as well making for much more useful storage, but I had already bought the Gladiators and was committed.
