sewage lift station

im finishing out my basement and had some questions about lift stations, well i dont know $hit about them. anyone have experience with them, installing etc. i plan to only use it for "beer refuse" but the occasion may present itself where it is needed for more serious business.

Well you need a "trash" pump. Probably 300+ to a consumer. Its pretty simple, you have a pit much like a sump pump pit. Pipe runs in, pump has a float. When the pump float risies it kicks on a switch and pumps up a pipe attached to it, then over, then down into your main sewer line. Needs a union on the pipe going stright up from the pump cause they do not last forever, you will be changeing the pump out usually about 5 years. They should have an alarm. Usually two wires attached to another float that you would zip tie to the pipe in the pit. So when it starts to back up the float will float up and the alarm will kick on so you know there is a problem before you make that last flush and have sewage runing all over your floor.

The one I have in my basement is a simple arrangement. You install a "pump can" in the ground and gravity flow the basement plumbing to it. You will have to saw cut the slab and dig a hole for the pump can. The can is installed so that the top is flush with the floor. You will need to get the plumbing drain(s) to gravity flow to the can(you may have to saw cut your slab and dig a trench). A "grinder" pump is then mounted into the can, with a outflow pipe that runs to the sewer pipe or septic stub out. You then wire up an alarm(it sounds if the pump fails), and you're good to go.

I installed a bathroom in my basement and put in a lift station, aka sewage ejector pump. I put in a Little Giant sewage ejector package, #SE-9S-SMPXRT-K. With this package you get the pump and a basin together. I have been using it for a little over a year now and it has worked out well (odor free). As was previously mentioned you will have to get a concrete saw and cut the floor so you can run pipes into the basin. After cutting you will look around and think that a bomb has gone off in your basement.

I have installed the Little Giant packaged sewage system in a basement that has been working great. The good thing about the system is that you do not have to cut a hole in the cement floor. But you need to raise the bathroom floor 6” or have the area around the toilet raised. You can also run the sink, shower, and bathtub drains to it.

The most important aspect of installing a package system or using a sump basin cut below the floor is to have it connected to a 3” vent pipe that passes all the way through the roof of the house.

i saw the little giant system after i posted this, this all sounds like a pain in the ****, the 6" raised floor option sounds better, the systems that work with this option are about twice the price than the little giant. i may just go with a grey water ejection for a bar sink and walk upstairs to use the john. thanks for the help guys.
