Get a strong smell of sewer gas from our guest shower even though it is used regularly. Wife has tried vinegar and other flushes. Any advise? Help greatly appreciated.

The only way you will get a smell of sewer gas is if the P-trap is dry. If it's used regularly and you still get the smell, the first question I'll ask is ;

Is there a P-trap plumbed into it ?

Sometimes a poorly vented system will pull the water out of a trap. Can happen when you flush a toilet somewhere else and the vent can't provide air fast enough.

Fill the trap, then have someone else flush the toilets in the house while you listen for gurgling in the shower drain.

Are you 100% sure it's coming from the shower and not a leaking seal around the toilet or another place?

As mentioned, the trap must be going dry some way if it's coming from the shower. It happens in our house sometimes because of the way one of our sump pumps is plumbed. When the sump pump goes off a couple times it ***** enough water out of the shower trap that sewer gas comes up. I run the water for a couple seconds to fill the trap again and it's fixed.

Is it a tile shower? It could be buildup on pan liner under tile. Also we get customers with the same issues, and its a buildup of soap scum/hair on the riser between p-trap and shower drain grate. Once water starts to flow over it will stink real bad. There is a youtube video that shows how to clean it.

New shower placed by Rebath. Smell was present before and after. At work now but will try flushing other toilets in house and listen for gurgling from drain when I get home in AM.

It's possibly you have a leak or faulty joint connection around your p trap. It's not maintain a seal and allowing sewer gas to come back up. A leak test can be performed to verify a leak.

You could always put a piece of pliable rubber on top of the drain when not in use. If you still had the odor then you could look elsewhere.

Bleach.:headscrat

Could be the wax ring on the terrrrrrlit:bounce: Possibly could even be you.:scared: I don't mean flatulence there is a condition or circumstances that can make you smell like a sewer (leaky gut). But if you're only smelling it in the bathroom then it's probably not you.

Did you know 95% of human beings have parasites? I don't mean in rural africa drinking tainted water either.:scared: Don't touch no one, not that you don't already got em. My recurring obsessiveness with the nastiness of human beings and incompetence of "diagnostic medical professionals", I suppose.:headscrat Not free parking but something to be aware of.

If you got sewage problems take care of them right away, you don't know what's crawling down there.
