Anyone that use to watch or have seen the old shows on TNN, what size garage would you guess it was? I don't have much room in my yard for a large garage. It seemed like the guys on the show had plenty of room for tools and to work on a car or truck comfortably.

I thought the original show was behind one of the guys house. He had the two story barn style garage. After the show became popular, they moved to a larger cement block building and if I remember that correctly, had a chain link fence around it, was blue, set fairly close to the street. Ones guys name was Sam Memmolo and I can't remember the other guy at the moment. The one was a taller blond and the other was shorter with a beard. IIRC the taller of the two passed away last year. I think it is Sam that still has a show now but with a different name.

Sam is still on the air in "Two Guys Garage". Dave Bowman left to work for another company. Dave Bowman was replaced by Dave McBride who passed away from cancer in 2007. His replacement was Bryan Fuller, a much younger guy that seems to have a lot of knowledge but spends too much time trying to be a comedian. Since Mr. Funny joined Sam, I seldom watch the show.

The other host was Dave McBride. Unfortunately Dave passed away due to cancer. He taped the show even while he was undergoing severe chemo treatments --what a guy!!
Dave was a nationally known automotive personality who was both a certified ASE Master Tech, as well as a Master Truck Tech. He was the "real deal" with regard to highly developed automotive expertise and enthusiastic teaching skills.
The new guy, Bryan Fuller has an excellent reputation for his fabrication work and metal skills. His antics must be working since the show is more popular than ever.

There is a great deal of product placement, but I look past that to the information they present that I do not know. Their trip to Satisfied Brake factory was really interesting. Their K&N trip was also good. I still wouldn't buy a K&N filter though.
Bryan Fuller is good to watch when he's not being overbearing. He did some good presentations on TIG welding and body work on one of his early shows.

I used to watch that show with my dad. It was better than the new crop of shows that are on the air now.

I recall them doing a show building a Total Performance T Bucket. I got a a copy on Video years ago. Now ( recently ) Total Performance has been sold off to Speedway Motors.

I was watching that one night and they were changing a turbo on Mercur .The next day I new I had to do one at work. Can't tell you how much it helped . One bolt need a wrench cut to remove it . My boss scene me cutting one of my cheap wrenches and was looking at me funnythen i told him why . He thought i was full of **** but i made pretty good time on the job . That show pretty much helped me out and made me look good when i was done with that job

I watch Two Guys Garage whenever I can but it's true; they spend lots of time promoting certain sponsors' products. Guess it's just part of the deal but items like the Tornado or electronic rust-inhibitors make me wince.

I used to watch Shade Tree Mechanic all the time also, sorry to hear of the news about Dave I offen wondered where he had been does anyone remember when he had a show called Hidden Heros? as I recall the next show after Shade Tree Mechanic Crank and Chrome was filmed in Florida I haven't seen the newest one with Sam I don't have Speed Channel if thats what its on

Liked the show better when it was the shadetree mechanic. Dave and Sam seemed to have the best chemistry together. Sorry that Dave's replacement passed away. He did seem to know what he was talking about. The new kid doesn't seem to fit as far as mechanic part, but more as a favricator. Hardly watch it now. They seemed to get away from a regualr garage topic and more to money is no object and equipment that I don't think most of the average guy would have in their garage.

I think the guys question was about the garage... As I recall from watching the original Shadetree show,it was a large one bay shop,probably 16 or 18 feet wide.Not sure on the length,but I would guess 30 or 32 feet long.

I remember that show too. The garage seemed to be a large 1 1/2 (1 3/4?) or small 2 car garage it was filmed in.

Thanks guys, I have been waiting to see if someone remembered about what size garage they worked out of.
I already have an attached small two stall garage, I like to call it a 1 car garage b/c two of our vehicles won't fit in it. I will have to double check with the county, but I don't think I can go much bigger than a 1-1/2 wide due to the V-shaped lot line and how much the terrain changes in the backyard. I can't go the other way without moving the septic.
I just wanted something I can concur most automotive repairs with room to work around and comfortably store all my equipment where it is easy to get to. I believe I could probably go two cars deep though. Like I said I need to double check that.

Shade Tree Mechanic with Sam Memmolo and Dave Bowman began in Knoxville,Tn. with the garage the guy is inquiring about. A local company(in Knoxville)produced the show before it was picked up by TNN and moved site/filming to Tampa,Fl.. Florida is when Dave Bowman left the show to go producing other shows and Dave McBride came on board.

This post just made me remember how much I miss TNN!! They pretty much ruined it when they changed it from "The Nashville Network" to "The National Network". Ruined it even more with the change to SpikeTV. Sad they had to commercialize and ruin it like all the other channels on TV. I hate Spike TV and rarely watch it anymore.

Pretty much the same can be said about the Speed Network. In the early days, Speed had a really interesting variety of programming; "Lost Drive-in", Historical documentaries about different auto manufacturers, WRC coverage, and a much wider variety of motor sports. Now, when I flip past, I only ever see either Nascar, or Pinks.
