I've given up on my 3D printer again. Once again I am struggling with leveling the bed and keeping it level. Seriously considering selling it and purchasing one with a different style bed plate.
HOWEVER, I have found something that I believe may solve the issues I am having. My printer never seems to sit level in the way that I can rock it from corner to corner. Based on what I have read I don't think I should be able to do this but that there is a fix.

Taking some time away from it though. Don't know why but it is one of the most frustrating things I own.

Purchased the last of the hardware needed for the Impala today. Should hit the ground for the first time in 7 months tonight. I am waiting on my bolts for my diff cover coming tomorrow. Will fill the diff and drive it tomorrow evening.

Remind me, what 3d printer do you have?

You should absolutely NOT be able to rock the bed side to side, unless you're using enough force to compress the springs. I've had good luck using a stiffer upgraded spring.

Also make sure your build plate is not warped or bent.

@Mark_17 I have the Ender 3 Pro iirc. V2 maybe? I’d have to double check.
It’s not the bed rocking side to side it is the entire printer. The bed is a glass bed, definitely flat. I do have the upgraded springs.

It strums but I’d say there is more play than I expected. If there is an upgraded belt I’ll try it.


What’s weird is that it worked awesome for like 10 straight days and then boom super cattywompus

You can tighten that belt. No need for an upgrade.

Almost forgot the Christmas cheer I received! Milwaukee Underhood light 2125-20. This replaces my old Amazon special that uses a mega outdated charger and crappy “claws”. Very thankful for this, I have used it a few times already and it rocks.

I also purchased a few things for myself. Finally a good tape measure. I needed one so bad and got spoiled using a coworkers once.

I have more stuff to put in the shop but I haven't took "inventory" of it so I will post at a later date.

However I think I finally have a leveled 3D printer that no longer rocks and actually prints. Running my test print now and it seemed to be going swimmingly last I checked.
Another good thing is that I fixed one of my Windows 7 laptops, old Lenovo E420, that I can now use to fix my other old Windows 7 laptops lol I have Mitchell and AllData on that other laptop and would like to recover it. I repaired the screen but then the drive I think got corrupted. I may be able to pay someone local to put the programs on my E420 (which is a way better laptop) or save that drive on the other laptop but I am worried that they will not have success. I will try repairing with a Windows 7 recovery drive first.

Unable to recover the old laptop, I will call a repairman and see if they have something otherwise it is going into the garbage. I will keep the Lenovo with Windows 7.

Shop and tool update.

• I finally got my first Snap-On tools, some old Blue-Point wrenches. Dumpster diver. S-3842 and S-4044. I probably will put them up in the classifieds at some point since they are much larger than I use basically ever. I figure someone could add to their collection.
• Two Cox-Reels for my shop air system.
• Two extension cord reels.
• Left hand drill bits.
• A few allen wrench sockets from Proto as well as one from Wright
• New 18mm socket
• Autel J2534 pass through. This is to reprogram the keys in my grandmother's Cadillac. Struggling to do so though but I am sure I'll get it at some point.

I finally have decided what to build my shed out of and how I am going to do it. I just need to get the materials from Home Depot now. However it is much too cold! Supposed to hit single digits tomorrow night I think.
I did get a brand new shelf to replace that black one I had sanded and painted a while back. About a foot taller and deeper and a foot and a half wider. I will be getting a fifth shelf for it, probably will leave it at that. I am considering putting this exact same shelf on the other side of my shop and replacing my bookcase since the book case causes dead space. I would put the bookcase in my garage though.

Got another shelving unit to replace my old bookshelf. Super nice and tons of usable space now. Bookshelf went into the garage.
Doing a lot of reorganizing so everything is a bit of a mess. Waiting for the car to be able to move out so I can get my table saw into the garage and out of the shop. Also have a ton of junk in the garage that needs to either disappear or go to my dad’s (his stuff).

I also gained a LOT of sockets and wrenches from a maintenance liquidation. I haven’t even begun to organize or take note of what I got except for the stuff I am selling.

Impala is almost back on the ground. This weekend I will fill the diff and attach the drive shaft and do a couple of button up items. Hopefully driving Sunday barring rain.

Lastly I picked up some Bondhus allen wrenches because Northern Tool is flipping all of their stuff for very very cheap. Got a full set of stubby ball ends (SBLX22) for $23 after tax. Normally $45. @strutaeng got a set of the regular allens for $6-7 after tax, normally $25.

Yes! It was actually $5 for the regular SAE/metric set! I got the last one on the shelve. They had a lot of screwdrivers. I bought some of the regular Klutch Phillips #2s.

Looking back, I should have bought ALL of those Allen sets, LoL

No pictures but I have begun to clean out my garage, not shop, a bit. I pulled 14 foot long cabinets out, only 10 inches deep, and tossed a lot of old junk and furniture that basically just rots in there. I have let way too much stuff pile up.
A big reason for doing this is so that I can move my table saw and band saw in there. The table saw is just too big to be where it is and really hinders my ability to do anything on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Little bit of progress at a time. It is getting warm out now so I have no excuses!

It is interesting not having the Impala in the shop. Lots of activity space and I can park a truck inside. Impala should be back by the end of next week or so. Don't know what my next project will be, I do need to eventually finish my damn tool grid but I keep getting pulled off of it. At this rate it will never be done and I might as well have just purchased it! Oh well, I'll get back to it at some point.

Starting to look for gauges and a vacuum pump to do AC jobs. Both my Impala and my Silverado are leaking and have no AC. Needs to be done at some point here soon, it hit 90 yesterday.

Well truck got parked inside on Friday night and is now stuck there for the time being. I had an oil leak coming from the passenger side intercooler tube, pulled it to check o-rings and whoever was in here last did not replace the o-ring so I was missing one. Great!
However I was doing some PCV repair and thought I had all the pieces but unfortunately did not, so it is stuck in here for the time being. I ordered them Friday night so hoping to receive a shipping notification by the end of the day today or tomorrow.

Diesel back on the road, Impala back home.

I found some Toolgrid nearly half off on eBay and ordered it. It’ll just fill a drawer but it should finally get my metric wrenches in order.
My dad is getting his toolbox in order and I got jealous lol

I finally got around to tearing down the motor on the air compressor I got back in November. This was owned by some shade tree painters before. One of the piston rings let go and filled up the cylinder with paint and put some DEEP scratches in it. I think I am just going to trash this motor. It is covered in paint and that cylinder is not going to clean up. I kept looking at the fan wondering why I couldn't see any bolts to pull it off and why it looked melted. Turned out there were at least five different color layers of paint.




I guess if I could figure out how to disconnect the actual like piston and cylinder stuff I might be able to find a replacement block if you will. Doubt that is ever going to happen.

Okay, sleeves are out. I have it all apart now. The only thing I cannot get off is the actual pump housing, block, thing. I was able to remove the four bolts holding it onto the motor housing but nothing past that. It must require some sort of press.
I really wanted to get it off to try and paint it.
I did find a good rebuild kit that actual may have worked for this. About $170 total. I don't know if I have ruined it though when I tried to get the block off.

Is there another motor and pump I can just swap on this thing and go? Harbor Freight? Is there an air compressor boneyard that I can get a new pump and motor and just rebuild it if needed? The paint on this will drive me nuts I think.

Got my tool grid in for the metric drawer. This thing is sweet. A rated. The only thing I did not like was cutting the board. Pretty difficult but started to go faster once I did a few. Other than that it is awesome. I didn't realize how much space I had in these drawers.

Next I got a little tool haul. PCFOLD from Matco, got it for less than half price at a pawn shop. Decent condition, really sticky? 4" Milwaukee trim square, did a few projects that I wish I had a smaller square. Lastly Wiha T20 screwdriver. I bought it thinking I did not have a T20 screwdriver. Fits the T20 holes perfectly HOWEVER I do not like the rubber grip. I don't know if I have ***** finger tips but it is like dragging my fingers across sandpaper. I'm not sure, probably ***** finger tips. I give it a C+.

Moved the Grand Prix to the shop. @Mark_17 EFI is going on. Suspension parts are here as well. Silverado relegated to the car port for AC work when I get around to it. No parts and still need to get a pump, gauges, dye and freon.

Also got these trick car dollies to move the GP around. Not a mega fan of the wall mount but it seems to do the job.

Went to install the rear suspension on the Grand Prix and the original shock mounting bolt had been destroyed. So pulled the axle and taking it to a fab shop this week to get new shock mounts welded on. Sniper carb is on but other than that no progress made on that front. Had to go back to the factory t-stat and hose as well as change the alternator setup. So 2 steps forward and like 5 steps back.

Impala went on another drive today, trying to break in the gears, and the passenger caliper bolts backed out. Oops. Going to get two new bolts at work so that they match. Other than that I washed it and made it look real pretty for the garage...

Pulled a good size mouse nest out of the blower motor on my Impala. Don't think it was actually mice but looked like one. Now I can drive that with the AC on, very happy. It actually seems to be working pretty good so I will divert my attention to my Silverado when I have the chance.

Got my new Milwaukee charger and seems to work just fine. Happy about that.

Dropped off the GP axle at the fab shop yesterday morning and they said it should be done this week. I'm out of town starting tomorrow night so probably will not see it until next week. Waiting on Jegs for the disk brake conversion so I can install that before I stab it back in.

Edit: One thing I forgot is I finally got my prescription safety glasses. Best thing ever.

Picked up the Currie this morning from Summit. 3.50 gears. Primed and painted it low gloss black. That is probably all the work I will do this week. I have a work conference this week and then will be out of town Thursday afternoon to Sunday.

I did order a new condenser for my '99, AC is just around the corner!

Why the decision to go 9"? You dragging the car?

@Mark_17 To quote my father "By the time I spend all the money to rebuild the 12 bolt it still won't be as strong as a 9" and I'll have to wait a month or so for it."
The price difference wasn't much all said and done. I paid just over $3200 for my 10 bolt in December and this 9" with a disc brake conversion was $4200. Disc brakes are not anything special, nothing radical at the moment.

I assume that yes we will be dragging it although I don't know his exact plans. I'm just the laborer. He used to drag it a long time ago, radials are in the attic. We will be putting down a very healthy amount of torque.

Stupid Rock Auto. Ordered the wrong condenser, I misunderstood what rear AC meant I now know it means rear AC controls. However, no 1999 Silverados have rear AC controls so it shouldn't even be listed under there. No way to contact them and complain to have them remove those either. Not even worth sending it back because by the time I pay for the shipping and their extra fee to restock it I only got half my money back. Awesome...

I knew I should have just ordered it from Amazon but I was in a hurry. My mistake.

I have this conversation with people all the time. They want to get a part from Rock auto and have me install it. I tell them if its wrong, they are paying my time plus paying for me ordering the correct part, plus dealing with the absolute headache of sending a part back to rock auto. They better make damn sure they bring me the right part if they insist on ordering their own parts. If I order from them I am always nervous they will mispick or send me the wrong stuff, happened too many times.

The problems we always had were with parts like axle seals, and small things. I have a buddy who religiously buys stuff from them, especially if he finds it in the clearance section. He will buy stuff whlether he needs it or not. His luck has been much better than mine.
