This is just a small 3 Car attached I'm playing around with, its 22'x32'.

I just taught myself how to use it a couple weeks ago to plan my kitchen remodel. Amazing software. I'm posting from my phone but I'll put up a couple pics tomorrow from the computer.

stupid question but how do I post my stuff? Did you do a screen cap/print screen and edit it down?

I am running a Windows 8 O.S. so I have the "snipping tool", and just did a rectangular snip. If you are running an older O.S. you can screenshot and trim it down with paint.

Yeah, it definitely takes some getting used to. I plan to add some Gladiator Garage Works stuff to it, and do a RaceDeck style floor. I like playing around with it.

Sketchup is awesome and I use it for all my ideas and designs now. This is a sofa table design that I made about a year ago. Components are split out toward the left. Highly recommend learning how to use it.

Here's an older idea I still want to try. 50's or 60's style Nixie tube clock radio/Bluetooth speaker. I couldn't figure out how to get metal legs on it so I just left them out.

30cal....Welcome to Garage Journal.

I have to say that the Sketchup and your building are spot on with each other. Make sure you post up some finished pics of it, or if you have been keeping up with your build with more pictures, start a build thread in the gallery for all to see. I'm sure that one or two people would like to copy your design and some will have a lot more questions also.

Again....Welcome, and hope to see more threads from you in the future

BTW.....if you don't mind doing it, could you put the State that you live in, into your profile? It greatly helps when asking or answering questions. Plus, you never know....you may have a few Garage Journal members living right close to you.

Similarly to Kevin54..... I used sketch-up to fine tune and help me understand the massing of my 14' tall walls of my current 44'x40' build. I really wanted to make the scale feel more residential and fit my neighborhood. I did that raising the windows on the lower level, lowering them a bit on the upper level and using large dormers front and back all of these were easy to manipulate using the free google sketch up program. These "renderings" also helped me sway the zoning board to allow the higher than allowable eave height (needed for trailer storage).

I am taking lots of photos and promise a detailed build post, just very slow progress and winter is slowing me down even more. Hope to pour my heated slab and add siding/trim this spring/summer/fall.

Used it initially to get a feel for the dimensions I was thinking about, then started adding the interior. Was very useful for changing siding, colours etc.

Took a long time for me to get a finished model I was happy with but once I had it I could play around with walls and windows, roof pitch, etc etc.

I have been using Grizzly.coms dream garage. Its definitely a basic program for arranging tools in your garage. I doesn't even compare to google sketchup but it is easy and fast for seeing if things will fit. I am going to try sketchup. Thanks for the suggestion.

We have been using Sketchup extensively for laying out shops with Lista cabinets. We build a modeling environment using dynamic components so we can simply change some table parameters and get any Lista cabinet model, size, drawer configuration, or color.

We are now doing a remote login so clients can interactively see a 3D walk through of a proposed design.

Needless to say, we are really big advocates of Sketchup.

If anyone needs Sketchup renderings of Lista cabinets let me know and we will draw up the renderings. A great way to evaluate solution options.

I've been playing around as well. I just purchased a new house and it has a detached 21.5 x 15.5 garage that doesn't have electricity. I been using it to figure out the lighting, wall outlets and the planning of my work space.

It is amazing how much you can do with the program.

Hello Helder,

I have not done the storage wall pieces yet. All I can do right now is stack cabinets into a pseudo storage wall system as shown in the attached images.

Maybe I'll play with the storage walls this weekend. I've been wanting to do it since we often do storage wall designs. I just wanted to get the cabinets and workbenches done first.

How tall are your sections?
How many sections?
What is the drawer/shelf configuration?
Do you have any pictures or sketches you can post?

This is my only model of note. I made this one from scratch back when I was dreaming of having an Ever Eternal full rise scissor lift. I tried to make it as close to scale as I could get with the approximate dimensions of the documentation I found on the internet.

Do you share your models on the sketchup warehouse or with customers? I recently modeled a lista tool cabinet from best guess dimensions I've found on the internet but would love to have access to some more exact models. What about if I promise to buy my lista cabinet from you?

It's amazing that, to me, there isn't a bad sketchup in this thread. I'm inspired to give it a shot now because of all of your efforts.

Sorry for the laundry issue. I made a welding cart that was a bit simpler based on a Husky tool chest. Since I'm teaching my 15 year old daughter to weld, I figured that I would make embellishments to the cart based on her suggestions. The drawing is what we came up with. We're going to make it this spring. She is really looking forward to it. Anything to keep her interested in learning.

There is a learning curve, but there are tutorials that teach all the basics. On top of that if you still have problems with some parts, chances are others have had the same questions. Just google it and you will find the answers.

BTW, I think I **** at this sketchup, but I get by.

I find the easiest is to do an Export command, export 2d graphic, which is a Jpeg. then just treat as a Photo.
