I'm working on a case of the cheap white ones that I picked up off the side of the road still that fell off of a truck. I live in a part of Texas where oil field traffic is prolific so every vacuum truck, tanker, etc. keeps a case in their toolbox. I have to admit I've never purchased them and always just ask a driver while on location if he'll give me some and they almost always do.

what you're looking for are "sorbent pads" though.

Pig & Brady are the biggest manufacturers

I can't speak to your specific question but I've found that puppy pads are an inexpensive choice for minor spills.
I get a big package at the dollar store when I need them.
This.
Funny thing, I've told a couple of friends about this and they were not interested -- at all.

Thanks for all of the leads! Yeah, pig mats...kind of like Kleenex when really it's "tissues."

I just need a supply for various oily storage bins, under the diesel engine in the sailboat, and the like. They seem unusually expensive for what they do. I think for a spill in the shop, I'd just use sawdust or absorbent spill powder.

Sounds like you want the hydrophobic ones - If you want a good price you have to be willing to buy a lot of them.

I use them in the boat all the time to prevent oily discharge. Couple friends and I went in and bought a case of 1000. I want to say we were down towards $0.25/pad for the thicker ones. I just paid the guy back - I don't remember where he actually bought them from.

I get them from work. We sell them for around $35 a bundle of 100. Id images lesser 48 pricing being less as we have shipping in that price.

Yeah. The ones worth paying money for are the "oil only" pads or mats. Water runs off them while they soak up oil. Puppy pads, clay kitty litter and nearly all "oil absorbents" almost indiscriminately absorb any liquid, actually giving preference to water, so they are pretty useless for oil spills if there is water around. Might as well use cardboard or newspapers if that's what you want. Actual oil absorbent pads, mats, socks or booms are mostly made of spun-bonded polyester that floats on water and soaks up oil. I keep a pack of oil-only pads around all of the time.

Thanks all. Yes, oil only and hydrophobic is what I'm interested in. Will continue to search. I'll put a price watch on some sites too.
