Shark Tank or Kick Starter?

I've been working on this for 4 years (and counting). I've put a lot of money in it. I believe it is one of a kind. Question is . . . Could this be the next big Kick Starter success? Shark Tank is gonna' want to see some numbers. A successful Kick Starter campaign might give me the numbers. What do you think?

Middle of nowhere.
OK, it looks like a combo of some things already on the market. Combo things sell, that's good. Price point, can you make it in the USA and still hit the price point?
Product liability insurance?

Target customer, city dweller with out a welder. Because every fellow on here will be building his own.

Can you sub some of the work out, or do you want to do it all in house?

Just asking questions I deal with everyday.

Would be a heavy bike trailer. What are the sales of bike trailers and what percent of that market could you get?

How many people outside of this demographic could even cut and assemble the boards?

Shark Tank likes high volume products for a low price otherwise it isn't worth their time to develop it. This also has no recurring revenue. Buy it once and it is good forever.

IMHO would be a bit more valuable if the 2x4s were out of the picture. Honestly I don't want to buy something then have to cut wood to make it work, I just want it to work, or I'll make it myself. Maybe sleeved tubing with variable height holes and pins would be easier?

Exactly my thoughts as well.

Thanks for looking and thanks for the replies. My original thoughts was to have a cargo carrier good for many applications. That meant keeping it narrow (to fit behind a four wheeler or bicycle without be too concerned with turning and hitting a tree wider than the four wheeler of a telephone post if your using it for a bike trailer). Then I wanted to keep it light so I stayed with aluminum.
I also wanted it more versatile than the products that Kevin54 showed.
I do not necessarily want to make this myself . . . I want to sell the entire package to a a big box retailer of some manufacturer that can make that happen so I can move on to the next project.
Again thanks for looking!

Shark Tank wants business ideas. Yours is still at an 'product' stage - not a business.

Do you have a patent? That's the first question those Tank geniuses will ask.
If you have a patent, and don't intend to form a company to sell this product yourself, why not just pitch it to firms that might be interested in it?

Mr. Wonderful will say:

"What is unique about this? What is stopping someone
down the street from knocking off something similar, perhaps
better with a slightly different design?
"

The others may say:

"Limited market to only those owning pickup trucks. Will do
fantastic in Texas but what about the rest of the country?
"

You won't be handing it off to a big box store. You will need to
be handing it off to someone who can manufacture the things
cheaply. They might buy you out if they think they can make
it work.

A must read for you:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/038511608X/?tag=atomicindus08-20
This was written by my dad's junior partner who subsequently went on his own to introduce 400 products to the market and collects royalties on over half.

Edit: I just happened to brush up on this man and found this:

"Kracke, inventor and best-selling author, holds 11 patents, 86 trademarks, and 1,206 copyrights. He has created 2,300 different new products that have generated in excess of one billion dollars in retail sales and has served as the creative consultant to Campbell's Soups, Coca-Cola, General Mils, K-Mart, Mattel, Sears Roebuck, Target and Wal-Mart. He has made guest appearances as a new product development expert on thirty-four different television shows, including Nightline, the Oprah Winfrey Show, the CBS Evening News, and the Regis Philbin Show. He is the winner of 217 awards for advertising, merchandising and marketing design excellence. His classic book on inventing "Turn Your Idea or Invention into Millions" has recently been republished."

Astonishing is all I can say. Last I spoke with him was nearly 10 years ago.

Then neither are the way to go. You don't have a business. You have a design.
