Apparently anything over 7" is not allowed to board the plane. Just so yall know, even my 8" long ratchet couldn't board the plane! Lol

Since I didn't check a bag in and just had a carry on I put the tool in there. Oh well, my mother was still there so she took it back.

When I used to travel to jobsites to take field measurements before beginning design, I carried one of those 1M candlepower rechargeable spotlights from HF. I carried on my toolbag with tapes, gloves, flashlights, plumb bob, laser level, etc, and security always checked out the big spotlight. After the first TSA inspector almost blinded his coworker with it, I had to warn them about it after that.

Depending on who said that, you could have had a prime window of opportunity for a very smart a$$ remark. :lol_hitti

I do often wonder the logic of the ATA at times. Sad world we live in that causes these regulations.

Sweet! Snow globes are allowed!

Quite frankly, I wouldn't want any of that stuff on a plane I was on. Most of that list is common sense anyway. :dunno:

Not TSA but security related: this spring my father-in-law was the keynote speaker for the grad ceremony of the HS he teachers at. Of course my wife, her sis and I are there with cameras and whatnot. After the purse and bag inspection, the security people (min-wage college students since it's the university arena holding the grad ceremony) make my sis-in-law take a camera mini-tripod back to the car but manage to miss the classic letherman in my wifes purse and Letherman Wave plainly visible on my belt. Boy I sure felt safer without those 3" long plastic legs threatening my life...:wtf::headscrat

I don't get it! Is TSA worried that he might also be hiding a socket somewhere and might start unbolting peoples seats? On the other hand, why would you bring a tool bag on the plane in the first place? Making a delivery?

Why would you bring a tool bag on a plane...

I actually have the answer to this, and they let me bring my tools carry on, after 911 even. Now, I didn't have any box cutters or anything stupid like that, but all my ratchets, wrenches, sockets, ect were allowed carry on. I did call more than a week ahead of time and let them know why and what I would be bringing...no problem.

Now, as to WHY?

Mechanics are freaking expensive. It was cheaper for my buddy to fly me in round trip to fix his car than it was to take it to a mechanic. Did we do anything elaborate? Nope, just brakes, radiator, and tune up type stuff. Nothing difficult and we were done in a long afternoon.

I remember carrying a Leatherman on planes all of the time. I just put it in the change tray and they never looked at it or cared. (I guess this is why we has so many problems now.)

For a few years after 9/11 I would always bring a 12 pack of beer on the plane with me when I flew out of Portland Oregon. When a 12-pack is your carry on luggage, everyone wants to be chatty with you.

I had tools at my mom's place in Texas and I've been bringing it to my place in Pennsylvania. Since i didn't check a bag in, I put it in my carry on.

Didn't know there was a length limit but I learned now!
