She-shed roofing material selection

I have a 8x10 roof with 2 foot overhangs on each side. I'm taking a roof idea from a shed builder online that looks very nice, ($13k for a basic 8x8 shed! wow.)

Anyhow, they use metal corrugated roofing, 29 gauge, but I went with the cheaper 31 gauge galvanized panels.

In the long run will this be okay or should I have bought the more expensive 29g?

Anyone use corrugated galvanized and regretted it?

I think it depends.

I have galvanized on my 40x50' shop and 7x12' shed. No issues. Not sure the thickness.

My brother put it on his 60x80 shop and it began rusting within 5 years.

Uh, I think a zinc once farted in the vicinity of those panels. They usually rust fast. Unless they're Galvalume. That's the good shiny stuff. But, you don't typically see it on low end panels. You could always paint the roof with aluminized roof coating. It'll give it a dull silver color, closer to real galvanized. And, keep it from rusting.

Your location will be important in determining a reasonable suggestion because of climate and rain and snow variations.

Like nails, if you can source hot dipped galvanized vs. the electroplated zinc, its an order of magnitude (10x) better.

I've never heard of 31 g panels.. maybe they are the ones marketed for "lining" inside of building ?

All the panels I have seen used on exterior are usually #26, on budget builds #29.

As an example - Mueller, a respected supplier offers 26 and 29.

Not a new idea. Important part is what is under the panels? What supports the two ft gable ends? If the metal can move it won’t last long

I recently got some wavy galv metal pannels for a project. Wavy in the fact that theres no flat area. I used them as a wood stove heat shield. They where 31ga I believe. There so thin no way would I use them on a roof.
