Sheathing 10’ 6” wall

Yes 10 foot 6 inch wall. Double top AND bottom plates to get me my 9 foot door.

I thought to add wind strength to my corners I could nail on vertically a 10’ 6” x 4’ sheet. The 12 foot x 4 foot osb is costly but wondering if worth it?

Is this 2x6 walls on 16" centers?
I'm guessing you are planning this for the inside? If so, what's going on the outside of the wall?

Typically sheeting is installed horizontally in a brick style pattern for adding shear strength. Installing it vertically doesn't engage many studs and probably doesn't add much strength.

I did vertical 4x8 sheets, then ran the left over space horizontally, staggering the starting point so nothing landed on the same studs as the verticals. Thinking using 4x12 sheets would end up with a lot of waste.

yes 2x6 studs and outside sheathing question..I saw somewhere folks were going vertical in the corners picking up the top n bottom plates. I can do this but need to buy super dooper long 12 footers. I was thinking if i did blocking w 4x8 it might mimic the strength

Sounds a bit like you are doing something like portal framing. Google it or just search this site. Basically how to frame and sheet a wall with a big cutout like a garage door so the sheer strength is reduced. It would be good to have a sketch of the entire wall. If the door isn't a large part of the entire wall then sheer strength isn't likely an issue.

The opening header is placed at the top of the wall and extends across the door opening AND the wall section next to it. Then the sheeting is nailed something like every 2" on a grid. The sheet is run vertically so the sheet and header form a strong L to resist sheer/racking.

I would do vertical sheets each side of the big doors, portal framing style, what's your code say on blocking in a wall that high?
I would go 8' sheet with blocking but where I am I think you'd have to special order in 12' sheets to get them and probably have to buy a whole pack.
The rest horizontal, I'm sure you can find a use for the 1'6" rips, it's only 10 of them generated on the long walls, so about 3 sheets worth of waste.

Mine is done with 4x8 horizontal sheets. There was opportunity for 8' vertical and 12' vertical, but horizontal was chosen for shear strength. Plywood too... I hate osb.

In the NW we always sheet vertically for shear. Usually installing blocking @ 8’ and running a partial sheet works, unless specific engineering shows otherwise.

I sheathed both vertically and horizontally as drawn in your pic.
For hurricane purposes a minimum of 4 ply 5/8 sheathing was required to allow this option. I also have blocking at 8’

How bout I put 2 full length verticals in each corner. (cut down 12 footers) Then run vertical 4x8s to cover the rest.

Question. Can a guy run his blocking up from the floor at 2 feet 6 inches? Or would it need to be up at the 8 foot seam.

How tall ur wall? Did you block?

Its complicated. Upper section is about 7' with a half-truss to the side, lower is about 11'. 2x6's on 24" spacing above, 16" spacing below. No extra blocking. Its what my contractor built for me, to Code.
