Have a 30'x35'x12' red iron building. Getting ready to have closed cell insulation shot inside and then followed by electrical and the sheathing. But struggling with sheathing support.
The purlin's are spaced at 4', 8', 12' and are 6"x2" C-shaped that is horizontal (therefore the inside face of the purlin is 6" from outside face of the metal sheeting). But concerned about spanning 48" with the OSB or plywood. Plus I wanted more support between the 4' and 8' purlins for hanging things, such as cabinets, hose reels, etc.
Here is my idea: Run 2"x4' vertically every 24", laying flat against purlin, attached to the purlin with self tapping screws. This would give me plenty of support for the sheathing and anything I want to hang. This would also give me great support at the joints in the sheathing so I'm not forced to use T&G. It also minimizes the amount of lost space from the added layer. I did think about framing between purlins, but felt that I would need to frame both the bottom and middle windows so that support would be all the way to the floor.
Has anyone used this application in their building?
