Hello,

I am going to lay out and pour a slab for a small shed early next year, about 10x10 @ 4" depth. I have two questions:

1) I am assuming that I will have to bring in a premixed batch of concrete as that is a lot of concrete. Am I correct in this logic?

2) How does one install the 'J' hooks? Do they go in first or as the concrete is curing so they stay vertical?

Sorry I am a novice and am going to start ansking lots of questions.

Thanks,

Mike

Round numbers....you are looking at just over a yard of concrete.Thats about 55-60 bags of concrete mix @ 80# bags.
I have never seen or used one,but my brother in Socal said at his local batch plant you can rent a trailer that will hold one yard of concrete....tow it home, pour your slab.
As far a anchor bolts, they go in the wet concrete last, after you screed and float it....they should stay put on their own.

Yes, a cubic yard of concrete will cover an area of 8' x 10' at a thickness of 4", so you will need more than a yard. Don't forget to take the unevenness of the graded surface into account when calculating yardage.

its usually a good idea to pack 2" of stone base in your forms. You can pour right on the dirt it won't hurt anything, but it will help level things out.

If you have some time after you get your forms up, take some time off work and do a will call on your concrete order. Most concrete companies charge a "small load charge" usually around $80-100. A will call means, they will call you about 2 hours before they head your way. You need to be ready..this usually waives the small load charge.

Good luck, I just poured my 12X16 shed yesterday.

I did that same thing a couple years ago. Slightly larger shed but did pour a conctete floor.
What I ended up doing is alk the site prep work...did the forms rock base and rebar work. Found a company who was putting in a driveway in the area and swung a deal for them to pour the slab when they were doing the driveway. Worked out ok...didnt cost much more then if I'd ordered and poured myself.
