Next Summer I am considering building a shed for my Snowmobile, lawnmowers, etc... This is hopefully going to help keep stuff out of the shop.

I was thinking maybe 8 by 12, T111.

I have used corrugated aluminum for the roof already, and blocks to set it on.

Anybody have an idea on price? I am going to be doing the work myself. Thanks, Ryan.

At least a grand if you build it properly in my opinion. Even with cheap vinyl siding. $1000-$1500 should do it. I should be in the ball park.

less than $400. If you have a pickup, talk to some home builders about cleaning up their scraps for free. Even cheaper. Or scrap yard buy sheeting and angle. Prime and paint. Weld or bolt.

My guess would be a grand minimum +. You will need to beef up a wood floor for that heavy snowmobile, unless you go concrete slab. I had a 8'x12' wood storage shed with asphalt shingles and two 30 " wide doors that was pre-fabbed, built in my back yard in just one day in 2009 for $1400 and I furnished paint and painted it. Today the same shed is $2800 - $3K. jmo

Once you have plans, you can figure materials. If you have good plans, you should even be able to make a cut list for studs and framing.

$1000? Ouch! What if I made it a dirt floor? Would that save me a lot?

Yes, if you want it to last and look decent. For the roof, you could buy 8 foot 2x6's and taper them from 3 inches on the eve to 5 1/2 inches in the center at four feet. 16 inch center. You could get away with looking at osb sheets on the walls for a few years to save money. You also have to figure in your door and how you plan on doing that. The price always adds up. For instance if you vinyl side it, it will be around $55 for every 100 square feet but you also need corners and j trim which adds up fast. Little sheds can be pretty expensive.

Pallet Sheds. Enjoy. Number three is the best, number four is the biggest. If you have time, maybe you don't need money.

I bought a shed kit from costco, when it was on sale.. I think I paid 999 for it shipped to my door and they actually put it in my garage since it was raining that day which was nice of them.

I never built a shed in my life and I actually asked a ton of questions on here before starting it. I decided to do a couple things differently like reinforce the floor and the walls, which required me to get more lumber. I think I spent another 200 for the roofing materials and then I decided to paint the inside, put carpet, trim work, fabbed up a solar lighting system. I think with all the extra stuff I probably have $1600-1800 invested in it. It's solid, not going anywhere and I enjoy the looks of it.

Link just for reference:

I had asked a couple people to give me quotes on a shed and being in Northern VA of COURSE the prices are high... I think I got quotes ranging anywhere from $2k up to 3k for a 6x8/ 8x8 shed. The costco one was 8x10'.

It was a learning experience for sure, however going forward I would actually probably build one from scratch knowing what I know now. I never framed anything in my life and actually thought it would be much harder than what it was. There were certain part during the build I definitely needed a second pair of hands to move things or hold things but overall I enjoyed the entire process.

You'll definitely save money doing it yourself for sure but depending on your area might not be able to pick up the scraps of wood... Around here they don't want to give it up for free...

The pallet shed above to me doesn't seem like it would last. Pallet wood that I've used is always crappy, split or damaged, just doesn't seem worth it . I'd rather spend money knowing that it's going to be good wood than something that might be iffy, and then have to do it over again. but that's me.

Definitely update us when you start the build!
