Howdy GJ,

I just finished pouring the concrete slab for my shed last week. I am designing my shed in Solidworks so that I can produce a cut sheet. The shed is to be 10'x12' with the door opening on the 12' side. I live in central California with hot/dry summers and cold/foggy winters.

Since the shed will be on a concrete slab with PT joist and 3/4" T&G plywood. will I need ventilation for the joist? If so would pavers or skids be the answer?

Spacing for for joist? 24" centers works nicely for the plywood floor. Is 24" centers too little? Is 12" overkill? If I did 24" centers would (2) joist running parallel but spaced evenly help? Sorry I will try to upload a picture.

I plan to start in a week or two, This weekend will go to the restore and look for windows or any other building materials. Thanks for the help:beer:

I would leave some space for ventilation...more importantly some protection of the sub floor from rodents. I used 1/2" square screen to keep things out and it has worked well for some years now.

The slab is larger than the shed will be. It ties in with a walk away around the house and forms a patio area. Also I want the contents of the shed to be free from any water. We are in the middle of a drought, but rarely see light flooding.

kd3pc, do you have any pictures of the screens? Did you just cut notches into the base of the floor frame?

no pics, I did this on the M-I-Law's shed when we built it....

pick up enough hardware cloth, the thick solid kind,
lay it out on the concrete slab
since I was not concerned with how the outside rim looked, I just bent the cloth up aroudn the perimeter/joist structure and stapled it to the outside of that perimeter.

IF you are concerned about the look, pull the hardware cloth up and INSIDE the floor perimeter and joist structure and staple on the inside.

Hope this helps

I don't see a practical way to keep critters out from the floor joist space. If you are pouring concrete, you should have either raised the footprint of the shed above the walk grade or poured concrete ~3 or 4" thicker for the shed floor.

Floor joists make no sense to me.

Full disclosure: My shed has floor joists and is a haven for rabbits, squirrels, and an occasional transient skunk.
