I have been browsing the forum looking at different people's build threads for sheds. Also I have found some great YouTube links that have alot of build detail. It definitely seems like a task I could undertake. I'm looking for a 10x12, with possibly a roll up door in the front.

I have submitted a request to 84 lumber for a quote on one of their shed kits. I've also looked at plans online and came across the one below. Does it seem reasonable? https://www.construct101.com/shed-plans-10x12-gable-shed/

Unless you need a chore to do, those are better bought, than built.
It pays about 3 bucks an hour to build one yourself. They are a hobby unto themselves. For every guy who says he built his in a week there are 15 guys who took a year(you don't hear from them very often).

Two hours from that WILD Pete pulling up to
Placed, leveled, squared to the world, done

10x20, roll up on each end, double studded for each t111 seam, vented ridge and under the edges, reflective insulated roof, 12inch on center 2x8 floor with (I think) 5/4 flooring, two lofts each, aluminum tread plate thresholds.


There is not foundation because they were custom built, and get this;
Delivered three weeks EARLY!

A check, 12 days, and done.

This is only a hopefully helpful hint. If you need the spare time you have,

Thanks, ya I understand the time involved in a build. At this point, I know what a pre built one costs delivered and installed. I'm now looking to see the difference in building myself.

Not at the prices charged around here. Not same, but I am just about finished with a 130' chain link project. I've got about 20 hours in it and the DIY savings from two quotes on having it done come out at $35/hr.

Your build is awesome, so much detail, definitely one of the better ones I've seen. Got a few more pages to finish reading tonight lol.

I have to admit im one of the over a year guys.my gf and i started a 16x16 shed in march of 17.around the first of july this year we tore it down and started over.the first go at it we realized we didnt know **** about building a shed,but we learned from our mistakes and we'll have it weather tight by the end of october,weather permitting.

The primary use of the shed will be to store my lawn tractor that I plow snow with in the winter.... so the tractor will be in and out alot. Any thoughts on what to do about the wet tires? Would a tarp on the floor work....kind of like a garage mat?

Pressure treated plywood......two layers, overlap the seams

I store my riding mower in the shed, no issues

Scratch built mine from my old deck lumber. Took 6 weeks working evenings and weekends. Only an hour of daylight after work in October. Worked an additional hour under lights. Luckily we had a warm fall and I got it done, including painting, just before the cold weather hit at Thanksgiving.
Time consuming parts: leveling foundation, building foundation, making trusses, making doors, painting.
Things that went quickly: framing walls, roofing, flooring.

A kit should go faster.

Regarding the OP's question, for me it would also really depend on whether he could find exactly what he wanted in a kit. Anything I've ever built had to be customized to fit the space, the use or the budget using a lot of materials I already had or found cheap / free.

While I like the sound of over and done with, either my dutch cheapness or my over analytical side would probably preclude ever buying anything in a kit.
