Shed Tear Down

Need to tear down the old shed (former chicken coop) and I need a good idea how to do it quickly. I was considering wrapping a chain around it to pull it down, but a better idea would be appreciated.
It is destined to the burn pile.

I am at work so I can't see the coop pic. But how about a sawzall? lots of fun and you can take out your frustrations too.

If it's frame construction, a chain will probably just pull the shed off of it's foundation, in one piece. Sawzall is the ticket, if you are not going to salvage the lumber.

Even if you pull the walls down, you still need to cut it into manageable pieces.

Sawzall and a GOOD demolishion blade. It will probably take a couple blades but get the good ones, not the cheap ****. Run a cut around the shed by the top and pull the roof down and cut into pieces. Then cut the walls down and into pieces. I wouldn't use a chainsaw, to many risks involves.

I took a metal one similar to that down this spring using a sawzall and a metal cutting blade on a skill saw.

I had an old metal shed I had to get rid of.I took my sawzall to it, and it came apart in manageable size pieces in a hurry. A wooden one should cut just as fast.

How far away is the burn pile? A chain and some PVC sections to roll on, and you could drag it in one piece to wherever it's safe to soak with kerosene and strike a match.

The only issue with this nowadays is that if some guy shows up to tear it down or move it and gets hurt on your property he not only will get your shed he will get your house when he sues you!

If you have a volunteer fire dept, get in touch with the chief and see if they would

want to do a drill on your shed. They just might...

Something like that I would make quick work of with a Milwaukee sawzall w/quality demo blade, a sledge hammer, and a prybar. It would be leveled and gone in no time flat.

I have been cleaning out and tearing down sheds like this one on my property since '99. This is the last one, and I just started taking it down this morning.

There was some of that kind of stuff in there already! Now 99% of it is going in the dumpster.

Mattresses are the worst. There are five in there (I inherited a lot of this mess; I am not a mattress hoarder) and they are disgusting. Dumpster company won't let me throw them in there, so I have no idea what to do with them.

Last time I got a burn permit here, some official from the fire dept. showed up about an hour or two into my burn. A neighbor had complained about the smoke. I have about 14 acres, so it's not like the fire was right next to them, either. I was burning leaves, and that's not allowed, even though I see people do it all over the place in the spring and fall. You're only allowed to burn branches and boughs.

Moral of the story: eff burning. I don't need the stress.

I think if that was my shed I might have accidently knocked over a 5 gallon can of gas and then accidently knocked over a torch heating a bolt or something. Of coarse there would have been my 5 most favorite mattresses in the shed at the time of the fire!

Some heavy gloves & a short 4X4 post (4') will beat the living daylights out of the roof sheathing, & the rest will come apart pretty easily, another note is it may be better to strip the shingles off the roof first & you will be amazed on how quick the plywood roof sheathing pops off the rafters.

I second the sazall with a demo blade idea.

I fish the blade into the cracks to cut all the nails possible.
With all the nails cut you can just push it over.

That gets the roof down to ground level so you get the shingles off.
Shingles are usually a burning no no because of the heavy smoke so I just sneak them into the trash over a few weeks time.

This is the best way to do it. There are quite a few folks out there that could use a halfway decent shed. Toss it up on CL and it will probably be gone tomorrow

If I was near, I would carefuly take it apart and reuse the lumber or sell it. Its a waste to distroy it. Or sell the hole building. Looks good to me. you can reuse everything except the shingles.
