Im selling my house and want to want to side the shed, but vinyl siding is very expensive.

I know T1-11 and smartside paneling is designed to be secured directly to the studs, but could I use this on top of the zip board instead? Not sure if it would interfere with the windows, or if all that weight hanging on the studs (i.e. zip board plus smartside) is a good idea

Maybe consider just painting the zip board?

You can put lap siding directly over the Zip panels. Solid sheet materials would be better with a rain screen or spacer strips of some kind. I'd flash the doors and windows per instructions and do lap siding. Probably easiest fastest and cheapest.

Huber has seemingly endless technical data on line for free --- Go read up on Zip panels.

How do you imagine paint would bond to water-repelling ZIP?

what is that shed, 18'x10'. That's about 350sq' after you minus the doors and windows. Hardy Planks are about $1.50/sq', call it $600.
Thinner T1-11 is about $34 or $1.10/sq' or $400. 1gal of primer and 2gal of good exterior paint is about $150.

If you think vinyl siding is expensive something is wrong. It seems likely that any other option will cost 3 times as much as vinyl.

My guess is you got a I don’t want this job quote from someone.

Note most of the siding wholesalers don’t want to deal with the public and 5X the price if you dare to darken the door.

This stuff at Lowes looks to be selling for about a dollar a square foot or so.

Do you have code requirements for shed siding to match or look similar to the home?
I don't know the property details. The typical approach with city lots is to make it appealing and easy for the new owners. If that thing is right out the kitchen window, I'd make it look decent. As much as I hate to say it, the shed just needs to look good for most buyers.
