What's a good price for installation of drywall? A guy I work with gave me a price of 16 bucks a board (4 X 8). That is to hang and finish. For me, that's $1600.00. I've really dumped more $ in this thing than I've wanted. I plan on getting more estimates but was wondering if anyone has had any experience with sheetrock.

it's really pretty easy to do, speaking as though you have never done it.. it is just messy as heck with all of the dust that is generated.

Actually I don't think that it is all that easy to do. I paid $300. to have a couple of guys hang sheetrock in a 22 X 26 garage with 9ft ceilings. I taped and mudded it. They had it done in a evening and I would have been thinking about it. Ask around and see if you can find someone to do it cash as a side deal. I called a drywall business and they sent the guy to me to look at it as a cash job for him since they were busy. The guy said he would mud and tape for another $300. which would have been a bargain since it would have looked better. Getting a good finish can be a real pain if you don't have the patience or experience.

Going rate is between $0.70 and $0.80 per square foot complete. That includes all labor and material and finishing. The material is going to run about $0.25 per square foot so labor only should be $0.45 and $0.55. Per sheet (32SF) that's $16. He's pretty damn close on his estimate.

Note that this matches what oldgoat paid. He's got about 1400SF. At $0.45 for hang, tape and finish he would pay $630. His estimate was $600.

Remember, more square footage usually equals a lower price. For the roughly 7000 SF installed in my house I paid about $4500 complete. That's about $0.65 per square foot.
