Sheetrock/Drywall meeting Garage Door?

Hi,
I am not sure how the drywall should meet with the existing garage door hardware? It seems that most people recommend that the garage brackets stay in place and to sheetrock to/up against the door. I want to have a nice finished look plus I am going to heat/cool the garage area at times when working.

Questions:
1. Should I remove the existing hardware and install a 2x4 around the opening of the door and then reattach the hardware for the cleanest look?
2. If #1 is a no, then where do I stop the sheetrock?
3. What is the best way to seal up the air gap where the door meets the three sides of the building?

Pictures would be appreciated if possible. Thanks.

If you remove the hardware to put drywall, your door alignment would get thrown off once you put the brackets back on. Plus, brackets through drywall won't be as strong because it will be butted up against drywall instead of the wood. Do not remove the hardware to install drywall.

I can't speak to either of your first two items, but for #3, I would highly recommend using the vinyl seals on the outside of the garage and then double up by using the brush style seals on the inside. I got the best overall seal this way, even in high winds, and have been extremely happy with it. ;)

I would pay a garage installer to remove and then adjust the the settings when he reinstalls the garage door. What I meant in question 1 was to make it look like this....I agree not attaching hardware to sheetrock.
