I built this shelby gt500 model for my dads birthday. Its mainly 3/16 round rod, 23" long and 9" wide. 17 hours later this is what I came up with. I want to build some other cars the same way but would like to use a software program to figure everything out. What software would you recommend?

Thank you both!

Nicely done. What further plans do you have for it ?

That is all I did to it. Originally I was just going to have it be just the frame then decided it needed a little more, so I built everything else. I just left it all raw how it sits. He loved it and had no idea what I was building him so it was a success.

Depends what you want to spend. Solidworks is incredible software, but expensive. Look into a software called alibre. Not too expensive but a decent solid modelling package.

Do a web search on "Cold Hard Art". This guy builds raw metal models...maybe his site will give you some ideas.
I like what you did...great gift.

Im thinking about building a ford raptor as the next one. Right now I am building my mom a "family tree" for christmas to sit on a table and hang pictures on. Ill post up pics in a second.

CHA is one of the guys that gave me the ideas. He is amazing with everything he does.

I guess we are all nuts in a good way... I love this project!
Hahaha we sure are! It is fun to learn new things and get better!

Here is the family tree I have been working on. Sorry for the unclear pictures but its coming along. It is going to have roots that connect to a wood base that my brother is making.

Then I also made these "spoon rings" for my wife and daughter the other night. As it turns out my wife is allergic to the sterling silver haha.

Re: Shelby gt500 round rod model and Family tree

Thanks! I just gave my mom her christmas present, the "family tree". I was originally going to have it metal plated but he never got back to me so I took the torch to it and clear coated it. Hopefully the next project I will have a media blaster so I can clean it up a little bit more, but this was the look I wanted on this one.
