What mean is, build a shelf frame but don't top it with plywood. Anyone done it?
I currently have pallet racking, that was great when I stored mostly old engine blocks and axles, but that has cleared out for parts bins and household storage iny basement. Now stuff is stacked 3 deep and I know there is stuff back there that will never see the light of day. While looking for casters a couple weeks ago I found 2 electric motors I forgot I had. Coupled with with my parents are retiring and started cleaning out their house, so the stuff I "accidentally" stored there 2 decades ago is showing up by the carload.
My thinking on the advantages
- prevents loose junk from being thrown on, everything must be in a bin/box or of decent size
- cheaper, I have several hundred spare 2x4s but no plywood
- quicker, chop saw and nailer are all I need
- easier to clean - can just blow it out with an air gun
Anyone tried this? Results? Also what spacing did you use, I think that will be critical.
