If you go online and look up metal carport There are ones that are 12X21 and are 695.00 installed. Of course its extra for the sides but that may be done with plywood yourself.

I was at my Home Depot here in Eastern PA this morning and noticed they have the Moto-Shade 10 X 20 unit on clearance for $149.00.

I have a 10 x 10 I'm trying to sell (http://allentown.craigslist.org/grd/3211600701.html) that I used as a temporary chicken coop a couple winters ago. I have no complaints about the thing other than I just don't need it any more.

As for the moisture issue, I would think throwing a tarp on the ground would help elevate it a bit...

I also use a shelterlogic carport for Hay storage, first one lasted 2 years, started to leak at all the places where the metal poles joined. New one is still fine.

Top Tip: Wrap duct tape around each and every tubing joint where the tarp flaps and rubs in the wind. That's where the holes will start, don't want the tarp hitting a sharp edge.

Also, for keeping hay off the ground, tried pallets (horrible, full of rats, always stuffed with rotten hay) and finally graduated to a full OSB floor sitting on a frame built out of pressure treated 2 X 4 lumber. Works great, can get 45 bales inside. (western bales, bigger than eastern bales, ours are 125 pounds each.)

Here's a couple of pictures on the stability and snow shedding ability of the rounded top shelters. So far this year they have withstood 145 inches of snow. 6 inches just this morning. I know its months since this was last talked about but thought it would be helpfull in the future. I did not remove any snow from the shelter. It all slid off.

I recently purchased a 10x15x8 from Home Depot. I wasn't comfortable with the ground anchors and didn't like the idea of the car being on the ground all winter so in usual overkill, I went to the local sawmill and got some rough cut lumber for around $200.00.

The ends seem a bit short.

The wind picked up so I had to move to another project.

Its supported mainly under the two "tracks" with shimmed blocks under each 2x6, 16" on center so the sketchy looking corner isn't a concern.

In a way I'm looking forward to its failure so I can build walls and a roof since I obviously have too much time on my hands.

I had a 12x20 grey one for about 4 years.. It held up good until I got lazy and didn't shovel the snow from the sides. What I found was that snow would slide off the top , build up on the walls then pull the tarp tight. This in turn ripped the tarp right down the centre. It's a decent shelter for a winter or two, but became good motivation to build a real garage.

I also found it very hot and humid in the summer, I wouldn't consider heating it in winter.

I'm on my 2nd in 5 years. for 250 bucks it suits me until I can get a real garage. I had 2 sides of mine on a wood retaining wall and on the other two I added scrap 4x stock I had lying around. literally hammered long spikes into the asphalt as I have a thin driveway. kept it anchored nicely.
lost the first when I added metal roof to it and didn't increase cross bracing. highly recommend ratchet straps where each rib meets the horizontal cross brace. mine does not have a round top. pulling it in though keeps the snow from sitting on it.
after two years get a tarp and cover it. just spent 100 on a tarp thicker then the original and just used bungee straps to hold it down. significantly darker inside during the day but got a black one from northern tools so doesn't look horrible. I use a tank top radiant heater near where I'm working. if wind is blowing don't bother. during a sunny day though it is nice inside.
do not secure the bottoms. they have to allow for air to move.

The original tarp on mine only lasted 1 1/2 years so like Kaizen mentioned plan on putting a good quality tarp on it after the first year.

I have a shelter logic round top 10 x 20, purchased in 1995.

Couple of things about them:

They will take a fairly good snow load on the top, however, the sides are the weak link as snow will push the sides in. I have had 3 - 4 feet of snow on the top but use the snow blower to clean up around the sides. The ones around here that have collapsed had a good snow pack around the sides.

They make at least three diferent weights of fabric. The one I have is the middle weight.

Set them up so that the prevailing wind strikes the sides, not the opening.

Install vents or a ground mat because it will get musty inside if its on bare ground. After a couple years, I put a plywood floor with plastic vapor barrier. My brother has an EDM rubber mat which works well.

Mine is nestled in the trees, which protects it some from the sun. Its most likely the reason it has lasted so long. To date I have replaced the front door, mostly because the original one got sucked into a snow blower. The main cover has developed some pinhole leaks over the last few years, but is mostly intact.

Here it is in the left hand side of the photo.

I have the BARN style shelter with the heavier 14.5 oz fabric. I set it up with a lazer level so it is straight and level. I used ratchet straps to get the cover piano tight. I have had it for 10 years and it held up under the brutal snow we had last year and winds up to 80mph. I used 3 ground rods cut in half and drove 3 four foot ground rods on each side to anchor it. I have another tarp on the ground and have been storing vehicles in it the whole time. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

I guess I'll revive this thread. We just purchased a 12x20 Heavy Duty Shelter Logic for our teardrop trailer. It was on sale ad the 12x16 are too hard to find. Has anyone left out a set of poles to shorten theirs to 16 ft? We don't think it should be too difficult, but 20 ft is a bit long for us. Any advice?

No but sounds doable if ends are separate Pieces. Maybe pull excess under and tie back.

I have the 20 ft model. Have you seen how the ends are drawn tight? I'm sure it's possible but getting it to tighten up probably won't be easy. You would have to do it on the back overhang. It really needs to be pretty tight or the weather will tear it apart very quickly.
