I have a 10'x30' block wall that I am going to run a 14" shelf across the top of, I'm going to use wire shelf. Not because I want to, but I have piles of it and cash is a big issue. Under it, I am going to run 1/4" peg board most of the length of the wall.
Here are my questions,
How many holes in block are too many?

Do they sell wire shelf hangers that I could do a vertical hang from the finished ceiling? The reason I ask, I don't want to press my peg board tight against the wall to mount the hypotenuse style shelf supports which I don't care for anyway.

What sort of spacing should I use behind the peg board? 1/4" furring strips?

Probably dumb questions, but I'm most concerned with putting too many holes in my block wall. Thanks guys

I've done a lot of drilling and hanging in block walls in restaurants and have had great luck with using plastic expansion anchors -- they can hold a lot of weight when mounted in a non-compressible substance like concrete block.

As for too many holes, that seems to be a purely aesthetic question. I can't imagine that you'll weaken the block with some 3/16" holes.

And when I want to hang something, I use threaded rod attached to one of those ends that has machine threads on one side and wood threads on the other. Attach it to the threaded rod with a coupler nut and off you go.

Thanks. I don't know why I worry so much about putting holes in the wall. I also don't want to have a weak link though.
