Yea, I'd be skeptical of the gauge of that metal. Might not be the stablest thing in the world.

they come piloted to screw them to the wall
just do that and they should be good
if not.....were a crafty bunch
just make the damn thing beefy

It's definitely not something that's truly "garage" rated, but it would be fine for holding smaller items that don't weigh a ton.

Something like that would be useful for holding something like automotive detailing chemicals or something.

At $15, it's almost the same price that you could even build it out of 2x3s, a sheet of 1/2" plywood, and a box of screws.

$15 for a shelving unit to hold light duty stuff isn't bad. I work near an Ikea, maybe i'll head there today and pick on up.

I don't expect it to be beefy, don't expect it to be perfect, but I have a ton of light duty stuff that needs a place to live for a few weeks. that price sounds pretty reasonable to me. Hell, i think i paid $35 for the sheet metal/particle board one from walmart i have now. Can't be much worse than that.

I bought one. It's exactly what you expect. Light metal, easy to assemble and small. Perfect for what i wanted it for.

Took about 10 minutes to put together with stopping to sneak Christmas cookies, drink, answer text messages and throw the tennis ball for the dog. It is a bit more stable than i expected, but still needs to get a few screws into the wall. there are no pre drilled holes to fasten it to the wall.

I put all but one shelf on upside down. A plus to this is that it forms a tray to keep stuff from rolling off. the downside is that this leaves the corner screws exposed. So watch your skin and easily damaged items in the corners if you do the same.

I grabbed about the heaviest loose thing i could find and threw it on there. It's an NP231 transfer case for my jeep. Googling confirms my guesstimate weight of 75 pounds. the sharp corners of the case left some small dimples on the shelf, but nothing overly concerning. I wouldn't leave it there for any long periods, but there was no apparent bowing and it was still just as stable.

I may stop by tomorrow to pick up another and add just the shelves to this one. There is a lot of space between shelves that will be wasted.

For $15 i'm happy. it's small, light and has a good amount of storage for the foot print. Is it ideal for a large shop? probably not. But in my 2 car garage/shed/shop it will do just fine.

nah.. as much as I love Ikea, get some real shelving. Go look at some pallet racks!

Ha! my little 2 car garage would be one big shelf and i would be back to working outside!

I did buy that other one, but instead of adding shelves i just screwed it it into the side of my existing one. Now my heavier duty shelf is empty and waiting for my to get loaded. I'm VERY happy with this setup until i have the time and money to build some new cabinets. Thanks for posting this Kevin54, I wouldn't have found these on my own.

Looks like it works for you. I'd still be afraid to use it in my garage, I guess I'd rather build a shelving unit myself.

Honestly, those shelves look like they should be in the oven with christmas cookies on them
