Sherwin Williams (H & C ) floor coatings

I have decided to coat my garage floor with a stain and clear finish.

I normally like to deal with local shops and suppliers and was wondering if anyone has experience with the Sherwin Williams products?

I am in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

My concrete garage floor is almost 3 years old and only has minor stains.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Had H&C sealer on my garage when I bought the house. It was put down 5 years ago. It was still stuck on pretty good but didn't look good at all and scuffed and stained easily. I just tiled the floor. I would add that the guy I bought the house from did not work in the garage at all. I have a picture of the floor with the coating in my porcelain tile thread

Are not S/W epoxy floor products branded under the GENERAL POLYMERS name which they own ???????

Anyone reading this have expereince with S/W-General Polymers AQUA ARMOR
for sealing concrete floors against water vapor transmission ????

I need DIY help as Im too frugal to pay a contractor big $$$$$$$

Yes I know I need to shotblast or grind first

the sherwin william *****, after awhile it will start peeling up and everything you drop will take a hunk of it. It the worst covering I ever used. they say its rating for fork lift traffic but i dont see how. after couple years it will start turning yellow

Sounds like someone didn't prep their concrete very well... Done 3 houses with it so far and it is used at work and we drive fork lifts on it. At work we do recoat every 3ish years but then again we are driving fork lifts that have 10,000lb castings on the forks all over this stuff....

When you drop stuff and this "Hunk" comes out is there concrete on the back side of it?

H&C stain was the worst thing that ever happened to my garage. We did all prep as MFG instructed. Applied the stain as instructed by the MFG. Let dry as instructed by MFG. Applied H&C clear as MFG instructed. It looked AWESOME and after a week we moved everything back in the garage. After we noticed the clear was scratching very easily we tried to see if it would come up easily. Boy did it pop right up. Pulled off like a sun-burned arm.

After contacting H&C and asking if this was a normal issue the very nice tech said yes. They have seen many failures on the water based stains Lowe's sold. We told them the mix smelled like milk. The rep started laughing and said many people us the stain and then place colored water or choc milk in the container and return it. Not sure if we had real stain or not but keep in mind they have Acid and Water based.

Lowes refunded our money for the 2 gallons of stain and two gallons of clear coat.

Of course no one helped with the cost of removing it and that was another $350 just for the machine.

It would be more helpful if you could tell us the product you used. To say SW ***** doesn't do us much good. Like most companies, they make a wide range of products, form cheap to expensive. Their better coatings are some of the best in the industry, and are not normally available to Joe Public.
That's kind of like saying, "Ford *****." Sure, they make a Fiesta, but they also make a GT, which is incredible.

Mine's been down about 9 months now. Looks as good today as it did then, and I haven't babied it either. Rocksolid is a great product.

The SW product I used was ArmorDeal HS1000. Great stuff.

Well I ordered the rocksolid and it should be delivered any day now. dlc, any advise on prep and application. Plan on starting it soon as winter is approaching. Some leaves are already starting to fall

Have a friend to help. It dries very fast and if you overlap a previously coated area it will have a dull finish where overlapped. Also, I was less than impressed with the acid that comes with the kit. Go to Lowes and get their acid wash, it is much better. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. Good luck and be sure to post pictures when you're done.

I installed SW ArmorSeal in 2001, prepped new floor after 6 months of curing according to instructions, washed, etched etc. Put down SW primer coat and 1 color coat, no gloss coat. It looked good for about a year or 2, then had hot tire pick-up. It's now cracked and peeled in places and grinding it all down in a couple of weeks to do it over. This is a heavily used floor rolling jacks around etc. This time I'm going with primer, color, gloss coat with flakes.

Well put the rock solid down yesterday and it came out fairly nice. Took 5 1/2 hours for a 40 x 40 garage. Came out glossy and when I put on the clear on the shop side it was more of a satin finish. Guess I'll see how durable it is over the years.

H&c makes a latex deck coating that they call a stain. This is not what we refer to as a stain.
